Sleaford Mods
Sleaford Mods sind ein im Jahr 2007 gegründetes Musik-Duo aus Nottingham, das aus Frontmann Jason Williamson und Produzent Andrew Fearn besteht. Die in verschiedenen Musikszenen sozialisierten Künstler fusionieren Punk- und HipHop-Einflüsse und brachten zunächst im DIY-Verfahren ihre Musik heraus, die ab 2014 vor allem in Großbritannien ein großes Publikum erreicht.
Ursprünglich aus der Mod-Subkultur stammend, betätigte sich der 1970 geborene Williamson musikalisch zunächst relativ erfolglos in Bands und als Singer-Songwriter und arbeitete als Session-Musiker; zumeist für lokale Bands, aber auch für die Gruppen Spiritualized und Bent. Sleaford Mods gründete er mit seinem Freund Simon Parfrement, der die Produktion 2012 an Fearn abgab, dessen minimalistische Grime-Tracks Williamson in einem Club in Nottingham gehört hatte.
Zentrales Element der Songs von Sleaford Mods sind Williamsons ausufernde Texte, die in ihrem missgelaunten, gesprochenen Vortrag an Mark E. Smith erinnern, inhaltlich aber weniger kryptisch sind. Durch volksnahe politische Themen, eloquent zur Schau getragene Wut und die Verwendung von Dialekt und Umgangssprache füllten Sleaford Mods eine Marktnische. Das hohe Identifikationspotential lässt die Band, die in Pubs ihren Anfang genommen hatte, große Hallen füllen. „Key Markets“ (2015) und „Spare Ribs“ (2021) waren ByteFM Alben der Woche.
