Als Soulboy, als jemand, der Spa\u00df am Arrangement hat und als jemand, der genau wei\u00df, wie man einen Song stilvoll anschwellen und ausfransen l\u00e4sst. Denn gerade wenn ein Gitarrensolo im Spiel ist, dann ist das Ausufern schnell vergeigt. Und doch bleiben \u00fcber die ganze L\u00e4nge des Tracks die Geigen (und auch die anderen Streichinstrumente) an Ort und Stelle, genau so, wie Weller sie in den Himmel geh\u00e4ngt hat. So schwer der \u201eModfather\u201c auch auf Fuzzpedal tritt, driftet der Track nie ins Rockige ab.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Weller ist schwer zu fassen, kaum zu vereinnahmen. Nicht, dass seine Musik verstiegen daherk\u00e4me. Ganz im Gegenteil; davon zeugen all die Lieblingslieder, die er mit The Jam und The Style Council geschrieben hat. Aber die Magie des britischen K\u00fcnstlers aus Surrey in England liegt auch darin, dass er anders ist als seine Zeit- oder vermeintlichen Genregenoss*innen. \u00dcberhaupt, die Sache mit dem \u201eModfather\u201c \u2013 was soll das eigentlich? The Jam waren Mods der zweiten Welle und \u00fcbersetzten das Erbe der urspr\u00fcnglichen Mods der 60er in eine neue Zeit. Und bevor die Szene zur Revivalkultur erstarrte, l\u00f6ste Weller The Jam auf und schlug mit The Style Council neue Wege ein. Mit weniger Gitarren und coolerem Artwork unternahm die Band ihre Reise, die irgendwo bei Jazz und Bossa Nova losging und 1989 mit einer House-Platte endete. Die allerdings erst neun Jahre sp\u00e4ter erscheinen sollte \u2013 Weller war mit ihr zu weit vorne; das Label spielte nicht mit.<\/p>\n<p>Seither macht Paul Weller im Wesentlichen, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/sendungen\/flashback\/2020-05-13\/13\/mai-1995-paul-weller\/\">worauf er Bock hat<\/a>. Mal mehr, mal minder inspiriert, aber nie vorhersehbar. Ende 2019 war das etwa eine EP mit verspukter Ambientmusik auf dem famosen, aber ziemlich verschrobenen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/sendungen\/was-ist-musik\/2015-05-27\/08\/\">Hauntology<\/a>-Label Ghost Box. Und jetzt kommt mit \u201eMore\u201c ein gro\u00dfer Soul-Song, der irgendwo bei <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/sendungen\/out-of-spectrum\/2012-11-04\/08\/\">der Musik<\/a> von Terry Callier ankn\u00fcpft. Musik, die sonst niemand macht. Paul Weller ist cutting edge wie lange nicht mehr und in stilistischer Hochform.<\/p>\n<p>Das Album \u201eOn Sunset\u201c von Paul Weller erscheint am 3.
