Fontaines D.C. – \u201eA Hero’s Death\u201c (Partisan Records)<\/h6>\n

\u201eIs it too real for yaaa\u201c, fragte Grian Chatten uns im vergangenen Jahr. Sein Tonfall war herausfordernd und sarkastisch, das letzte Wort genussvoll dehnend. Doch an der Frage war etwas dran: Seine Band, Fontaines D.C., wirkte auf ihrem im April 2019 erschienenen Deb\u00fct \u201eDogrel\u201c<\/a> tats\u00e4chlich sehr \u201ereal\u201c. Die Instrumente polterten knochentrocken, ganz un\u00fcblich f\u00fcr den gerne in Unmengen Hall ertr\u00e4nkten Post-Punk, der die Songs der f\u00fcnf Iren beeinflusste. Chattens Stimme erklang ganz vorne, unverschleiert. Als w\u00fcrde er einem seine Melodien direkt in den Geh\u00f6rgang singen, aus f\u00fcnf Zentimetern Entfernung.<\/p>\n

Nun, nur ein bisschen mehr als ein Jahr sp\u00e4ter, sind Fontaines D.C. wieder da. \u201eA Hero\u2018s Death\u201c, ihr zweites Album, entstand zum Gro\u00dfteil auf Tour. Kurz nachdem die Band auf der B\u00fchne ihre dringlichen Deb\u00fctsongs performte, zogen sie sich in den Bus zur\u00fcck, um den Nachfolger zu schreiben. Sie wirken gleichzeitig wie eine logische Fortsetzung und eine 180-Grad-Wendung. <\/p>\n

Eine Band beginnt zu atmen<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Genau wie auf \u201eDogrel\u201c beherrscht Chatten noch immer die hohe Kunst der Punchline. \u201eYou shoulda heard me in the lounger \/ Telling people what they was \/ Spitting out all types of sugar \/ Just dying for a cause\u201c, spuckt er einem zu Beginn des Albums im Song \u201eI Don’t Belong<\/a>\u201c entgegen. Er schleudert sowohl meisterhafte Takedowns (\u201eSwipe your thoughts from Broadway \/ Turn ideals to cabaret\u201c in \u201eTelevised Minds\u201c<\/a>) als auch melancholische Beobachtungen (\u201eThe noise of the town \/ The salt in the air \/ It plays all around but I no longer care\u201c in \u201eSuch A Spring\u201c) um sich. Seine Feder ist spitz, seine Augen scharf. <\/p>\n

Auch die fast schon unversch\u00e4mt eing\u00e4ngigen Melodien sind wieder da, doch ihr Gewand hat sich ge\u00e4ndert. Fontaines D.C. haben die dringliche \u201eRealness\u201c ihres Deb\u00fct verloren \u2013 und daf\u00fcr etwas ganz Neues gefunden: Atmosph\u00e4re. Chattens Stimme tritt in den Hintergrund und l\u00e4sst Platz f\u00fcr lange Hallfahnen und ausgewaschene Gitarrenw\u00e4nde. Die Rhythmusgruppe kann zwar immer noch ballern wie im chaotischen \u201eA Lucid Dream\u201c, tritt aber \u00f6fter auf die Bremse. Stellenweise klingt \u201eA Hero\u2018s Death\u201c wie ein echtes Dream-Pop-Album \u2013 und das steht der Band \u00fcberaus gut. Pl\u00f6tzlich beginnt sie zu atmen. <\/p>\n
