Quakers – \u201eII: The Next Wave\u201c (Stones Throw Records)<\/h6>\n

Schaut man auf die nackten Zahlen, mutet diese LP wie ein hyperaktives Hardcore-Album an. 33 Songs. In nur 50 Minuten. Dazu kommen 31 Gastauftritte. Das ist, um es zeitgem\u00e4\u00df auszudr\u00fccken, eine ganze Menge Content. <\/p>\n

Doch wenn man sieht, wer hinter diesem Projekt steckt, ergibt alles Sinn: \u201eThe Next Wave\u201c ist das zweite Album von Quakers. Die HipHop-Supergroup, zusammengesetzt aus den DJs und Produzenten Supa K (aka Katalyst), 7STU7 und Trip-Hop-Urgestein Geoff \u201eFuzzface\u201c Barrow, quetschte bereits 2012 auf ihrem selbstbetitelten Deb\u00fct 41 Songs und unz\u00e4hlige Features in 71 Minuten \u2013 und verschwendete dabei keine einzige von ihnen. Nach acht Jahren Funkstille erschienen Quakers dieses Jahr \u00fcberraschend wieder auf der Bildfl\u00e4che, erst mit dem instrumentalen Mixtape \u201eSupa K: Heavy Tremors\u201c, nun mit der offiziellen LP \u201eQuakers II: The Next Wave\u201c. Genau wie auf \u201eQuakers\u201c ist auch diesmal wieder eine internationale Riege an Gast-Rapper*innen dabei, zusammengestellt aus Szene-Gr\u00f6\u00dfen und jungen Wilden des Underground-HipHops. <\/p>\n

Ein psychedelischer HipHop-Traum<\/strong><\/h4>\n

J-Dilla-Veteran Guilty Simpson rappt in \u201eDuck And Cover\u201c mit seinem altersweisen Toughtalk \u00fcber eine bedrohliche Bassline. Der lakonische Flow von Flying-Lotus-Kumpel Jeremiah Jae erklingt \u00fcber die rasselnden Oldschool-Hi-Hats von \u201eThis Station\u201c. Stones-Throw-Records-Newcomer Koreatown Oddity rappt seine antirassistischen und anti-militaristischen Lines in \u201eDouble Jointed\u201c<\/a> \u00fcber eine stetig nach vorne marschierende Snare-Drum. Die grundentspannte Stimme von Sampa The Great \u2013 die schon lange keine Newcomerin mehr ist<\/a> \u2013 flie\u00dft in \u201eApproach With Caution\u201c \u00fcber nostalgisch angestaubten Boombap. Jeder und jede einzelne dieser 31 K\u00fcnstler*innen hat von Barrow, Supa K und 7STU7 ein genau auf ihn oder sie zugeschnittenes Fundament bereitet bekommen.<\/p>\n

Diese dreik\u00f6pfige Beat-Hydra kann es dabei in punkto Kreativit\u00e4t und Produktivit\u00e4t mit den gro\u00dfen Instrumental-HipHop-Legenden wie J Dilla oder Madlib aufnehmen. Wie Szenen und Bilder in einem aufregenden Traum flie\u00dfen die psychedelischen Beats und Grooves einfach ineinander \u00fcber, sodass man am Ende gar nicht mehr wei\u00df, wie man da angekommen ist. Jedes eingeschobene Instrumental hat eine Funktion. Keine Idee, kein bizarres Sample, keine Sekunde wird verschwendet. Diese 50 Minuten vergehen wie im Flug. <\/p>\n
