F\u00fcr Billy Idol, der heute 65 Jahre alt wird, war \u201eDancing With Myself\u201c in gewisser Weise ein \u00dcbergangssong. Und letztlich auch einer der gr\u00f6\u00dften Hits f\u00fcr den in Gro\u00dfbritannien geborenen S\u00e4nger. Aufgenommen hatte er das Lied zun\u00e4chst mit seiner Punk-Band Generation X. Eine Demo-Aufnahme davon existiert und ist sicherlich auch mehr \u201epunk\u201c als das, was sp\u00e4ter aus dem Lied werden sollte. Aber auch deutlich weniger spannend. Denn machen wir uns nichts vor: Generation X sind schon eine respektable Band gewesen, aber zum wirklich essenziellen Punk-Kanon f\u00fcr die einsame Insel geh\u00f6ren sie nicht. Vielleicht war auch die Balance von Punk und dem Bubblegum-Element des Glam-Rock nicht im perfekten Verh\u00e4ltnis. Billy Idol wurde solo nicht zuletzt gerade durch seinen Glam-Faktor so erfolgreich. F\u00fcr manche mag das Anfang der 80er einen Verrat an den Punk-Idealen dargestellt haben. Andere m\u00f6gen behaupten, \u201eVerrat an Punk-Idealen\u201c sei ein innerer Widerspruch.<\/p>\n

Wie dem auch sei: Heute kennt man Billy Idol f\u00fcr seine hochgezogene Oberlippe und karikaturhaft \u00fcberzeichnete Rockerposen. F\u00fcr Songs wie \u201eWhite Wedding\u201c, \u201eRebel Yell\u201c und \u201eEyes Without A Face\u201c. Und Generation X als \u201edie passable Punk-Band, bei der Billy Idol fr\u00fcher gesungen hat\u201c. Der S\u00e4nger selbst begr\u00fcndete seine Trennung von der Band 1980 damit, dass seine Mitmusiker zu sehr in Richtung Deep Purple tendiert h\u00e4tten. In neuer Besetzung erschien 1981 ein Album unter dem Bandnamen Gen X, auf dem sich auch unser heutiger Track des Tages befindet. Erfolgreicher war die Single im neuen Mix als Billy-Idol-Solosingle, aber mehr Druck hatte die erste Version des Songs. In seiner Sendung Flashback hat sich Ingo Scheel Billy Idol in den 80ern<\/a> gewidmet.
