Er komponiert kleine Ozeane. Die Tracks, die der K\u00fcnstler aus Manchester ver\u00f6ffentlicht, laden f\u00f6rmlich zum Eintauchen ein. Das war nicht immer so: Stotts 2006er Deb\u00fct \u201eMerciless\u201c war noch ein relativ geradliniger, wenn auch kunstvoller Dub-Techno-House-Hybrid. Mit dem Kopf in den Wolken und den Beinen fest im Club. Das \u00e4nderte sich 2011, erst mit der Drone-lastigen EP \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0U3oGO3jVpI\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Passed Me By<\/a>\u201c, die in etwa so klang, als h\u00e4tte Burial einen Sunn-O)))-Song geremixt, und dann mit seinem Durchbruchsalbum \u201eLuxury Problems\u201c. Pl\u00f6tzlich offenbarte er ein Meer aus Kathedralen-Hall, Ambientfl\u00e4chen, desorientierendem Geblubber, Geistergesang und Drumpatterns, die so dumpf und endlos klangen, als w\u00e4ren sie direkt unter Wasser aufgenommen worden. <\/p>\n<p>An dieser Erfolgsformel hielt Stott fest, mit leichten Variationen. Auf \u201eFaith In Strangers\u201c (2014) erweiterte er seine Farbpalette um impressionistische Neoklassik-Tupfer und Field-Recordings. Mit \u201eToo Many Voices\u201c (2016) wagte er sich an ein paar Pop-Experimente. \u201eIt Should Be Us\u201c (2019) klang wie ein Club-Album im Salzwassertank. \u201eNever The Right Time\u201c, sein sechster und neuester Langspieler, klingt wie ein Amalgam aus all diesen Platten \u2013 ein Werk, auf dem Andy Stott all das macht, was er am besten kann. <\/p>\n<h4><strong>Endloser Klangozean<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Der Album-Opener \u201eAway Not Gone\u201c beginnt mit einer von kilometerlangen Hallfahnen verschleierten Gitarre \u2013 und wird im Verlauf seiner f\u00fcnfeinhalb Minuten auch nicht greifbarer. Zur H\u00e4lfte ert\u00f6nt eine weit entfernte Frauenstimme, die kaum verst\u00e4ndliche und dennoch seltsam vertraute Silben in den \u00c4ther haucht. Sie stammt von Alison Skidmore, Stotts fr\u00fcherer Piano-Lehrerin, die seit \u201eLuxury Problems\u201c auf jedem seiner Alben singt. Der ganze Song kommt ohne Drums oder Percussions aus. Braucht er auch nicht. Stotts Fokus liegt auf formloser Sch\u00f6nheit. <\/p>\n<p>Im anschlie\u00dfenden Titeltrack knarzen die ersten Drumloops los, ein leicht neben der Spur tanzender Beat. Skidmore singt sogar so etwas wie eine Hookline. Abenteuerliche T\u00e4nzer*innen k\u00f6nnten vielleicht zu diesem Song herumzappeln. Dies ist jedoch nie das Ziel von Stotts Tracks. Das hier ist Kopfh\u00f6rermusik in ihrer reinsten Form, vom ASMR-Rascheln und Handy-St\u00f6rger\u00e4usche kombinierenden \u201eDon\u2019t Know How\u201c bis zum Zeitlupen-Synth-Pop des Abschlusssongs \u201eHard To Tell\u201c. Wer diese Musik ganz nah an sein oder ihr Ohr l\u00e4sst, sollte nur auf eines aufpassen: nicht in diesem Klangozean zu ertrinken. <\/p>\n<p>Ver\u00f6ffentlichung: 16.
