Die vergangenen sechs Jahre gestalteten sich f\u00fcr die US-Indie-Rock-Band \u00fcberaus intensiv und anstrengend zugleich. Erst ein furioses Comeback, kulminierend in der allseits geliebten Reunion-LP \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/blog\/news\/neue-platten-sleater-kinney-no-cities-to-love-56966\/\">No Cities To Love<\/a>\u201c. Dann unz\u00e4hlige Konzerte. Dann eine kontroverse neue LP, \u201eThe Center Won\u2019t Hold\u201c, begleitet von einem kr\u00e4ftezehrenden Pressemarathon. So viele negative Rezensionen wie noch nie zuvor (obwohl die ByteFM Redaktion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/blog\/news\/sleater-kinney-the-center-wont-hold-album-der-woche-92481\/\">sehr angetan war<\/a>). Kritik an der Arbeit ihrer Gastproduzentin St. Vincent. Und, m\u00f6glicherweise am anstrengendsten, der Ausstieg ihrer langj\u00e4hrigen Drummerin Janet Weiss, nach eigener Aussage wegen \u201ek\u00fcnstlerischer Differenzen\u201c. Dann war da noch eine globale Pandemie, die ihrer Welttournee \u2013 die endg\u00fcltig beweisen sollte, dass Sleater-Kinney auch im neuen Format mitrei\u00dfen k\u00f6nnen \u2013 den Wind aus den Segeln nahm. Nicht die angenehmste Situation, in der die Gr\u00fcndungsmitglieder Corin Tucker und Carrie Brownstein sich also befanden.<\/p>\n<p>Dementsprechend verwundert es nicht besonders, dass ihre neueste LP mit ein bisschen weniger Tamtam angek\u00fcndigt wurde. \u201ePath Of Wellness\u201c ist, an sich betrachtet, auch eine etwas verhaltenere Angelegenheit. Pass\u00e9 sind die Synthesizer- und Glamrock-Experimente des Vorg\u00e4ngers, genau wie die glorreichen F\u00e4uste-in-die-Luft-Hymnen von \u201eNo Cities To Love\u201c. Am Mischpult sa\u00dfen zum ersten Mal Tucker und Brownstein pers\u00f6nlich. Die emotionale Dringlichkeit und die eng verstrickten Gitarrenriffs, die ihre fr\u00fcheren Glanzst\u00fccke wie \u201eDig Me Out\u201c und \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/blog\/news\/sleater-kinney-the-hot-rock-86195\/\">The Hot Rock<\/a>\u201c zu Indie-Rock-Klassikern machten, treten auch in den Hintergrund. Stattdessen zeigen sich Sleater-Kinney auf \u201ePath Of Wellness\u201c fokussiert. Und so gut wie seit \u201eNo Cities To Love\u201c nicht mehr. <\/p>\n<h4><strong>Perfide Unaufdringlichkeit<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Sleater-Kinneys musikalisches Alleinstellungsmerkmal war stets die basslose Gitarrenwand, konstruiert aus Tuckers und Brownsteins dicht umschlungenen Gitarrenfiguren. Umso \u00fcberraschender beginnt \u201ePath Of Wellness\u201c ausschlie\u00dflich mit Bass und Schlagzeug. Der Titeltrack er\u00f6ffnet das Album mit einem leichtf\u00fc\u00dfigen Groove. \u201eDo I seek approval? \/ Is it something that I need?\u201c, singt Tucker \u00fcber dieses minimalistische Arrangement. Dass \u201eapproval\u201c, also Zustimmung, ihr nicht so wichtig zu sein scheint, zeigt der Song: Es ist ein feiner kleiner Pop-Song, meilenweit von den gewohnt herzzerrei\u00dfenden Sleater-Kinney-Hymnen entfernt. Ein perfide konstruiertes St\u00fcck Rock-Musik, dessen unaufdringliche Hookline sich viel tiefer setzt, als man zuerst f\u00fcr m\u00f6glich h\u00e4lt.<\/p>\n<p>Diese perfide Unaufdringlichkeit zieht sich durch die gesamte LP. Songs, die subtil wirken, sind tiefer, als sie scheinen. Die poppige Single <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/blog\/musikvideos\/sleater-kinney-high-in-the-grass-112572\/\">\u201eHigh In The Grass\u201c<\/a> entpuppt sich als Sezierung von jugendlicher Unschuld: \u201eWe cannot hear the chimes when it rings midnight \/ We can\u2019t imagine what we will lose\u201d, singt Tucker im Refrain. Genauso steckt hinter der anschmiegsamen Engtanz-Rock-Fassade von \u201eComplex Female Character\u201c eine bissige Medien-Satire, von Brownstein gesungen aus der Perspektive eines performativ progressiven, im Kern aber durch und durch misogynen Hollywood-Produzenten. Ein Punkt, der auch musikalisch im kurzen, aggressiven Gitarrensolo klar wird. Und auch wenn Sleater-Kinney kurz die Z\u00e4hne blecken, wie im Stoner-Rock-Riff von \u201eTomorrow\u2019s Grave\u201c oder im langsam ausblutenden \u201eShadow Town\u201c, tun sie das auf eine smartere Weise als viele ihrer Kolleg*innen. Und das waren Sleater-Kinney schon immer. Diese Band wirkt ganz und gar nicht ausgebrannt. Eher so, als w\u00fcrde sie gerade erst anfangen. <\/p>\n<p>Ver\u00f6ffentlichung: 11.
