Der jamaikanische Musiker Robbie Shakespeare, eine H\u00e4lfte des Duos Sly & Robbie, ist tot. Wie am Mittwoch bekannt wurde, starb er in Florida, nachdem er sich in den USA wegen einer Nierenerkrankung in medizinische Behandlung begeben hatte. Der Bassist, der mit seinem Sound f\u00fcr Jahrzehnte die Popmusik mitpr\u00e4gte, wurde 68 Jahre alt.<\/p>\n

Robert \u201eRobbie\u201c Shakespeare wurde am 27. September 1953 in East Kingston, Jamaika, geboren. Das Bass-Spiel erlernte er von Aston Barrett, der bei Bob Marleys Band The Wailers die tiefen Saiten zupfte. Shakespeare machte sich bald als Session-Musiker einen Namen, spielte bei den Bands The Aggrovators und The Revolutionaries. In jener Zeit traf er auch auf seinen sp\u00e4teren Rhythmus-Counterpart Sly Dunbar, mit dem er das Duo Sly & Robbie bildete. Mitte der 70er-Jahre gr\u00fcndeten die beiden ihr eigenes Label Taxi Records.<\/p>\n

Zusammenarbeit mit Pop-Gr\u00f6\u00dfen<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Sly & Robbie spielten auf diversen Peter-Tosh-Platten mit, darunter \u201eLegalize It\u201c und \u201eBush Doctor\u201c. Den Startschuss f\u00fcr eine internationale Karriere gab dann eine gemeinsame Tour Toshs mit The Rolling Stones, auf die der Reggae-Star Sly & Robbie mitnahm. Das Duo avancierte in der Folge zu einer weltweit gefragten Rhythmus-Combo. Neben Peter Tosh, Bob Marley und Black Uhuru arbeitete Shakespeare so im Laufe seiner Karriere mit zahlreichen anderen Pop-Gr\u00f6\u00dfen zusammen, darunter Grace Jones, Madonna, Serge Gainsbourg, Britney Spears und Bob Dylan. Sly & Robbie ver\u00f6ffentlichten aber auch immer wieder eigene Longplayer, darunter das 1987er Album \u201eRhythm Killers\u201c.<\/p>\n

Shakespeare galt als einer der einflussreichsten Bassisten der Popmusik \u00fcberhaupt. Der jamaikanische Premierminister Andrew Holness w\u00fcrdigte Robbie Shakespeare auf Twitter als unerreichten Reggae-Bassisten. Auch Olivia Grange, die Kulturministerin des Inselstaats, \u00e4u\u00dferte sich zum Tod des Musikers. Sly & Robbie h\u00e4tten gemeinsam \u201eBass- und Schlagzeugspielen auf eine neue Ebene gehoben\u201c.<\/p>\n
