Auf Gefahr hin, extrem norddeutsch zu klingen: Wart Ihr schon einmal Wattwandern? Das ist auf diesem Planeten schon ein ziemlich einzigartiges Erlebnis. Je weiter man sich von der K\u00fcste entfernt, desto gr\u00f6\u00dfer wird ein dieses Gef\u00fchl von Machtlosigkeit. Inmitten dieses klammen Niemandslandes wird der Mensch wirklich mit seinen Gedanken alleine gelassen, nur umgeben von Schlamm, Nebel und einem schier endlosen Horizont.<\/p>\n

Wem diese Erfahrung aus geografischen oder sonstigen Gr\u00fcnden nicht zug\u00e4nglich sein sollte, kann zum Gl\u00fcck auf die neue EP von Burial zur\u00fcckgreifen. \u201eAntidawn\u201c transportiert das beschriebene Gef\u00fchl n\u00e4mlich ziemlich gut. Das britische Post-Dubstep-Phantom hat auf seinem neuesten Werk nahezu s\u00e4mtliche Halt gebende Beats im Hafen gelassen und begibt sich ins tiefste Ambient-Nebelmeer. <\/p>\n

Dass eine Burial-Platte \u00fcberhaupt derartige Naturbilder heraufbeschw\u00f6ren kann, ist schon bemerkenswert. William Emmanuel Bevans Tracks waren bisher pure Stadtmusik. Seine ersten beiden (und bisher einzigen) LPs \u201eBurial\u201c und \u201eUntrue\u201c waren impressionistische Nachtaufnahmen von menschenverlassenen Gassen, einsamen U-Bahn-Stationen und heruntergekommenen Industrie-Bezirken. Das Knistern und Knarzen seiner 2-Step-Beats und seine geisterhaften Gesangssamples<\/a> konnten allt\u00e4gliche Orte wie Fastfood-Restaurants wie heilige Schreine<\/a> wirken lassen. Die zahlreichen EPs und Singles, die er im Verlauf des vergangenen Jahrzehnts ver\u00f6ffentlichte, f\u00fchrten diese Grundstimmung fort. Auch die formlosesten Exkursionen, wie die 2021 ver\u00f6ffentlichte B-Seite \u201eDolphinz<\/a>\u201c, waren von urbaner Romantik durchzogen. <\/p>\n

Alleine mit Deinen Gedanken im Nebelmeer<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Was macht \u201eAntidawn\u201c zur naturalistischen Ausnahmeerscheinung? Das l\u00e4sst sich nicht so genau benennen. Generell l\u00e4sst sich diese EP ohnehin ziemlich schwer greifen. Und darin liegt auch die Antwort: Noch nie bot Burial seinem Publikum so viel Projektionsfl\u00e4che wie hier. Im Verlauf von f\u00fcnf Tracks und 45 Minuten gibt es nur eine einzige Bassdrum-Sequenz zu h\u00f6ren, in der zweiten H\u00e4lfte von \u201eNew Love\u201c. <\/p>\n

Der Rest von \u201eAntidawn\u201c besteht fast ausschlie\u00dflich aus schwerelosen Synthesizer-Wellen. Die Bevans Musik eigentlich so auszeichnenden, gesampleten R&B-Vocals kommen und gehen binnen Sekunden \u2013 und klangen noch nie so geisterhaft. Dazu ert\u00f6nen wiederkehrende Ger\u00e4usch-Ornamente: das Knistern einer Plattennadel. Das Klackern eines Feuerzeugs. Das Rauschen einer Halt suchenden Radioantenne. Und das war es auch schon mit der Struktur. Manchmal vermisst man das Burial\u2019sche Beatgeklacker in diesem beatlosen Ozean, das Tracks wie \u201eArchangel<\/a>\u201c oder \u201eKindred<\/a>\u201c zu modernen Klassikern machte. Stattdessen l\u00e4sst Bevan seine H\u00f6rer*innen f\u00fcr eine Dreiviertelstunde mit ihren Gedanken alleine \u2013 sofern sie sich darauf einlassen. Und das ist mindestens heutzutage ein ziemlich einzigartiges Erlebnis. <\/p>\n
