In dieser Woche ist es \u201eThe Lexicon Of Love\u201c von ABC, das in diesem Jahr 40 Jahre alt geworden ist.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Das Buch der Liebe ist lang und \u00f6de. So sang es einst der US-Musiker und Chef-Zyniker Stephin Merritt mit seiner Band The Magnetic Fields in \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jkjXr9SrzQE\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Book Of Love<\/a>\u201c. \u201eIt&#8217;s full of charts and facts, and figures\u201c, sang er 1999 mit seiner schweren Bass-Stime, \u201eand instructions for dancing\u201c. Ein ziemlich trockener W\u00e4lzer, dieses Buch. Das so schwer ist, dass es niemand hochheben kann. <\/p>\n<p>Das Lexikon der Liebe ist hingegen eine ganz andere Geschichte \u2013 zumindest wenn man der Band ABC glauben mag. \u201eThe Lexicon Of Love\u201c, das am 21. Juni 1982 ver\u00f6ffentlichte Deb\u00fctalbum der britischen Gruppe, ist eine hemmungslose Feier des gro\u00dfen menschlichen Dramas \u201eLiebe\u201c. Hundert Prozent nach vorne, ohne Pause, ohne Angst vor Kitsch, ohne Anspruch auf Subtilit\u00e4t, mit gr\u00f6\u00dftm\u00f6glicher Ohrwurmdichte. \u201eThe Lexicon Of Love\u201c kann als Kunstwerk gerne kritisiert werden, doch eines ist es garantiert nicht: \u00f6de. <\/p>\n<p>Die Menschen hinter dieser Band waren nicht immer solche Pop-Dampfwalzen. Die beiden Gr\u00fcndungsmitglieder Stephen Singleton und Mark White waren vor ABC als das Duo Vice Versa aktiv \u2013 ein Projekt, das f\u00fcr die minimalistische Synth-Pop-Szene ihrer Heimat Sheffield in den sp\u00e4ten 70er-Jahren stilpr\u00e4gend war. 1980 wurden Singleton und White vom lokalen Fanzine-Autoren Martin Fry interviewt. Noch zum Ende des Jahres hatten sie gemeinsam eine neue Band gegr\u00fcndet: ABC. Mit Singleton am Saxofon, White an Synths und Gitarre und Fry am Mikrofon. Zwei Jahre sp\u00e4ter folgte \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/sendungen\/flashback\/2020-06-24\/13\/juni-1982-lexicon-of-love\/\">The Lexicon Of Love<\/a>\u201c \u2013 das sie direkt an die Spitze der britischen Album-Charts katapultierte. <\/p>\n<h4><strong>Schamloses Melodrama<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Diese Platte war nicht nur f\u00fcr ABC eine einschneidende Erfahrung. Schlie\u00dflich handelt es sich hier auch um eine der ersten gro\u00dfen Produktionsarbeiten von Trevor Horn, der erst als Mitglied von The Buggles und anschlie\u00dfend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/blog\/news\/trevor-horn-wird-70-fuenf-hits-des-pop-querdenkers-91457\/\">als Studio-Soundarchitekt ma\u00dfgeblich den Klang des Jahrzehnts pr\u00e4gen sollte<\/a>. Gemeinsam mit seinem Team aus Arrangeurin Anne Dudley, Toningenieur Gary Langan und Synthesizer-Zauberer J. J. Jeczalik (mit denen er 1983 die Band Art Of Noise gr\u00fcndete) pumpte Horn den New-Wave-Sound der fr\u00fchen 80er-Jahre zu neuer Gr\u00f6\u00dfe auf. \u201eThe Lexicon Of Love\u201c markierte f\u00fcr Horn und Konsorten einen ersten Spielplatz f\u00fcr ihren Fairlight CMI Synthesizer, ein Keyboard das gleichzeitig als Sampler dient. Die bombastischen Kl\u00e4nge dieses Instruments ziehen sich durch das ganze Album. Die kristallklaren New-Wave-Grooves des Openers \u201eShow Me\u201c. Die glitzernden Fanfaren von \u201eTears Are Not Enough\u201c. Oder das sph\u00e4rische Geklimper im sehnsuchtsvollen Instrumental-Abschluss \u201eThe Look Of Love, Pt. 4\u201c. Kombiniert mit der Chickenscratch-Gitarre von Mark White entstand ein Sound, der genauso gr\u00f6\u00dfenwahnsinnig wie unwiderstehlich anmutet. <\/p>\n<p>Dieses opulente Klang-Dickicht ist aber im Grunde genommen nur eine schm\u00fcckende Erg\u00e4nzung f\u00fcr die Stimme von Martin Fry, das wahre Zentrum dieses Albums. Mit schamloser Dramatik schmei\u00dft er sich in diese zehn Liebeslieder \u2013 und nirgendwo genussvoller als in ihrem gr\u00f6\u00dften Hit \u201eThe Look Of Love, Pt.1\u201c. Von den ersten \u201eWhoooho-whoooho-whooohos\u201c im Intro bis zum hemmungslosen \u201eYippie yeah yippee yay\u201c am Ende quetscht er aus jeder Silbe das Maximum an Melodrama aus. Das klingt nat\u00fcrlich genauso albern, wie es sich hier liest. Spa\u00df macht\u2019s trotzdem. Oder wie Stephin Merritt zwar nicht \u00fcber das Lexikon, sondern das Buch, und trotzdem sehr treffend sang: \u201eSome of it&#8217;s just transcendental \/ Some of it&#8217;s just really dumb.\u201c <\/p>\n<p>Ver\u00f6ffentlichung: 21.
