\nGibt es im digitalen Zeitalter noch geheimnisvolle Bands? Sobald eine EP ver\u00f6ffentlicht wird, wei\u00df man eigentlich, mit wem man es zu tun hat. Woher die Band kommt, wo die Mitglieder zur Schule gingen, welches ihre Lieblingsalben und Lieblingsgerichte sind. Es gibt jede Menge Referenzbands, aha, Indiefolk, Akustikgitarre, alles klar. S\u00e4nger wahrscheinlich b\u00e4rtig.
\nDoch was, wenn man nichts \u00fcber eine Band wei\u00df? Geht man ohne gro\u00dfes Vorwissen nicht anders und offener an die Musik heran? Eine Band, deren Musik man so unbeeinflu\u00dft h\u00f6ren kann, sind zweifelsohne WU LYF.<\/p>\n

WU LYF sind nichts, das bestgeh\u00fctetste Geheimnis Englands, revolution\u00e4r, Marketingstrategie, Betrug, die Band der Zukunft.
\nAll das sind WU LYF – oder auch nicht. Es ist schwer zu sagen, angesichts der wenigen Tatsachen, die \u00fcber die Band bekannt sind. Dass aber genau diese Abwesenheit von Informationen f\u00fchrt dazu, dass die Faszination anh\u00e4lt und WU LYF immer wieder auf diversen Blogs auftaucht, ohne etwas ver\u00f6ffentlicht zu haben, das steht fest. Aber zu den Fakten: Was wei\u00df man \u00fcber die Band? Dass sie aus Manchester kommt. Und dass der Name ein Akronym f\u00fcr „World Unite \/ Lucifer Youth Foundation“ ist. Und damit beginnt dann auch das R\u00e4tseln.<\/p>\n

WU LYF bestehen aus vier, sechs oder zehn Mitgliedern. Sie haben die wohl nutzloseste myspace-Seite<\/a>, die es gibt. WU LYFs Homepage<\/a> bestand bis vor kurzem aus Cut-ups und kryptischen Limericks, an willk\u00fcrlichen Stellen der Seite konnten versteckte Songs heruntergeladen werden. Mittlerweile ist dort eine obskure Filmmontage zu den zwei Songs „Concrete Gold“ und „Heavy Pop“ zu sehen.
\nAuf der Homepage kann man etwas f\u00fcr 17 Euro erstehen, wenn man schnell genug ist, auf den unteren Teil des Bildes zu klicken, bevor der Film beginnt. Es ist jedoch nicht ganz klar, was man kauft. Verpackung und Versand sind jedenfalls im Preis enthalten.<\/p>\n

Ob es die Songs „Concrete Gold“ und „Heavy Pop“ sind, die man da erwirbt, ist allerdings fraglich. „Concrete Gold \/ Heavy Pop are statements of intent. They are not for sale. They have no cash-flow value. We are not in the business of selling commodity.“ So steht es auf der Homepage. Keine Ware verkaufen sie also – was dann?<\/p>\n

„The LYF is a non-profit organization; lost brothers looking for a place to call home, in return for yr hard earnt currency our home is your home.“ Ganz ohne Geld geht es also auch bei WU LYF nicht, denn eines wei\u00df auch die Band und outet sich als Fan des Wu-Tang Clans (was man sich beim Namen aber auch h\u00e4tte denken k\u00f6nnen): „You don\u2019t need to buy this shit to be in the LYF, but joining holds a price to sustain action. Girl I\u2019d give it to you, but cash rules everything around me.“<\/p>\n

Sie weigern sich (noch), gesignt zu werden. K\u00fcrzlich konnte man auf einer Konzertank\u00fcndigung der Band diese Nachricht lesen: „Any suits wanna come? Some wild cats in clean clothes? wanna make-see some hype? fuck you, this aint for you, this is for kids, kids who have the courage to remain kids, not peddle their ass for the dreams of mountains peak. me and my boy tommy gun been sharpening our fists, come get cut up.“ Da \u00fcberlegt es sich der A&R-Manager vielleicht nochmal, zum Konzert zu gehen. Obwohl man Gl\u00fcck haben muss, WU LYF live zu sehen. Wenn sie auftreten, sind es meistens Geheimkonzerte oder sie spielen unter falschem Namen.<\/p>\n

Auf den wenigen Bildern, die wom\u00f6glich die Band zeigen, sehen sie aus wie eine revolution\u00e4re Zelle. Wei\u00dfe T\u00fccher verh\u00fcllen die Gesichter der Jugendlichen, die vor Rauchschwaden stehen. Das hat alles etwas von Untergrund und Subversion. Und ist nat\u00fcrlich ziemlich cool. Wom\u00f6glich geht man also doch nicht ganz unbelastet an die Musik heran und bringt schon mal eine Grundsympathie daf\u00fcr entgegen, dass sie es schaffen, diese Mystik trotz Blogs, myspace und Twitter um sich herum aufrecht zu erhalten.
\nVielleicht ist das alles aber auch nur ein ausgekl\u00fcgelter Teaser, bis die Band an die \u00d6ffentlichkeit geht und fortan f\u00fcr Prominenten-Geburtstage und Modeschauen gebucht werden kann. Bis dahin sind sie aber wohl die geheimnisvollste und interessanteste Band, die es momentan gibt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
