Die umeinander gelegten Fingerkuppen symbolisieren ein wichtiges Versprechen (und die damit einhergehende Drohung, die Gliedma\u00dfen des jeweils anderen beim Verrat zu brechen). Das wei\u00df vermutlich jedes (englischsprachig sozialisierte) Kind \u2013 der sogenannte \u201epinky swear\u201c ist eine noch heute auf Schulh\u00f6fen weit verbreitete Geste h\u00f6chsten Vertrauens. Auch das Cover des neuen Albums von Death And Vanilla zeigt eine Zeichnung solch eines Kleine-Finger-Schwurs. <\/p>\n<p>Das schwedische Trio scheint in dieser Geste etwas Kraftvolles zu sehen, schlie\u00dflich steht der Titel der LP, \u201eFlicker\u201c, f\u00fcr einen \u201eFunken Hoffnung\u201c. Nach den etwas d\u00fcstereren Kl\u00e4ngen ihrer vergangenen Platte \u201eAre You A Dreamer\u201c (2019) scheinen die drei Musiker*innen aus Malm\u00f6 f\u00fcr ihr viertes Album einen neuen Optimismus gefunden zu haben. Es soll eine \u201emoderne Reflektion schwieriger Zeiten\u201c sein, aber nicht auf deprimierende, sondern auf eine tr\u00f6stende Art und Weise. Ihr Vintage-Dreampop klingt auf \u201eFlicker\u201c jedenfalls so federleicht wie nie.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Angenehme Ewigkeiten<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>So federleicht, dass er manchmal auf beste Art und Weise droht, den Boden unter den F\u00fc\u00dfen zu verlieren. Death And Vanilla zeigten schon auf ihrem 2015er Deb\u00fct \u201eTo Where The Wild Things Are\u201c ein Faible f\u00fcr die Motorik von Can und Neu!, doch auf \u201eFlicker\u201c ziehen sie noch hypnotischere Kreise. Die Songs sind zwar (an den Krautrock-Odysseen ihrer Vorbilder gemessen) nicht besonders lang, doch sie f\u00fchlen sich in ihrer sanften Wiederholung wie ausgedehnte Tr\u00e4ume an. Egal, ob im stoischen Bass von \u201eFearless\u201c, der absteigenden Orgelmelodie von \u201eLooking Glass\u201c oder der aufsteigenden Gitarren-Spirale von \u201eTransparent Things\u201c: Death And Vanilla beschw\u00f6ren angenehme Ewigkeiten herauf. <\/p>\n<p>Die stilistische Bandbreite von \u201eFlicker\u201c reicht aber auch \u00fcber den Krautrock hinaus: Mal verquirlen Marleen Nilsson, Anders Hansson und Magnus Bodin verspielt Dreampop und Dub wie in \u201ePerpetuum Mobile\u201c, w\u00e4hrend sie sich an anderer Stelle ganz ihrer Liebe zu schamlos kitschigen 60er-Jahre-Soundtracks hingeben (\u201eMercury\u2019s Rising\u201c). Kombiniert mit der Stimme Nilssons, die in ihrer sanften Entr\u00fccktheit oftmals an L\u00e6titia Sadier von Stereolab erinnert, ergibt das eine bet\u00f6rend entspannte, aber nie beliebige Mischung. Bei der man zwar nie genau wei\u00df, wohin die Reise geht \u2013 aber der Band vollstens vertraut, dass sich diese Reise lohnen wird.
