Im Jahr 2011 hat die UNESCO den 30. April als Internationalen Tag des Jazz ausgerufen, um das Bewusstsein f\u00fcr die weitreichenden Auswirkungen der Jazz-Kultur zu st\u00e4rken. Es geht um ihre Geschichte, um ihre Wurzeln, die zu einem gro\u00dfen Teil in Afrika liegen, in musikalischen Kulturen, die die Sklaverei \u00fcberdauerten und \u00fcber die Jahrhunderte eine Eigenleben annahmen. Zugleich ist es die Geschichte eines Zusammentreffens afrikanischer, europ\u00e4ischer und asiatischer Musik, zun\u00e4chst in den USA. Schnell jedoch breitete sich das Ph\u00e4nomen international aus und war f\u00fcr lange Zeit das hipste kulturelle Ding. Wenngleich Jazz heute eine Hochschuldisziplin ist, verstaubt er noch lange nicht in Museen und Archiven.<\/p>\n<p>Die Jazz-Szene ist seit ungef\u00e4hr einem Jahrzehnt so aktiv und kreativ wie lange nicht mehr. Dabei lebt sie im neuen Jahrtausend nicht mehr blo\u00df von lokalem Austausch, sondern ist potentiell in Echtzeit international vernetzt. Dennoch bleiben lokale Zusammenh\u00e4nge noch immer bedeutsam. Besonders beeindruckend zeigt das seit einigen Jahren die Londoner Abteilung der <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/blog\/news\/uk-jazz-umsturz-auf-dem-dancefloor-88956\/\">UK-Jazz-Szene<\/a>. Innerhalb dieser geh\u00f6rt seit ein paar Jahren die Saxofonistin Chelsea Carmichael zu den spannendsten Acts. Urspr\u00fcnglich aus Nordengland stammend, wuchs sie auf mit Musik, die wie Teile ihrer Familie aus Jamaika stammte. Sp\u00e4ter entdeckte sie Funk und Soul und spielt in ihren eigenen Kompositionen mit diesen Einfl\u00fcssen. Mit ihrem musikalisch aber vor allem nach vorn gerichteten Blick machte sie sich zum wichtigen Bestandteil der aktuellen britischen Jazzwelt.<\/p>\n<p>Demn\u00e4chst ist Chelsea Carmichael auch in Deutschland live zu erleben \u2013 beim <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xjazz.net\/\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener\">XJazz Festival, das vom 8. bis 14. Mai 2023 in Berlin<\/a> stattfindet.
