Das ca. 30 km n\u00f6rdlich von Dublin gelegene Kasino kombiniert Gl\u00fccksspiel mit Outdoor-Parks und \u201eanderen familienfreundlichen Aktivit\u00e4ten\u201c. Die Kinder d\u00fcrfen am steinigen Strand der irischen Ost-K\u00fcste herumtollen, w\u00e4hrend die Eltern die Ersparnisse aufs Spiel setzen. Sp\u00e4tkapitalistische Dystopie f\u00fcr die ganze Familie.<\/p>\n<p>Genau dieser Ort ist der Ausgangspunkt f\u00fcr \u201eChaos For The Fly\u201c, das neue Album von Grian Chatten. Bei einem Spaziergang am Stoney Beach, vorbei an besagtem Kasino, flogen dem S\u00e4nger der irischen Post-Punk-Formation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/artists\/fontaines-dc\/\">Fontaines D.C.<\/a> direkt Texte, Akkordfolgen und Themen zu. Genug, um eine ganze erste Solo-LP zu f\u00fcllen. Warum unbedingt solo k\u00f6nnte man sich bei dem S\u00e4nger einer seit vier Jahren durchweg gefeierten Band fragen. Chatten schwebte eine ganz genaue Vision vor, die er nicht mit einer basisdemokratisch gef\u00fchrten Gruppe umsetzen wollte. Nur mit Gitarre und Stammproduzent Dan Carey ging er ins Studio, um einige der deprimierendsten und sch\u00f6nsten Songs seiner Karriere zu realisieren.<\/p>\n<p>Fontaines D.C. versteckten schon immer ein folkiges Herz unter ihrem Post-Punk-Geschrammel. Man erinnere sich an \u201eDublin City Sky\u201c, den Abschluss ihres Deb\u00fcts \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/blog\/news\/fontaines-d-c-dogrel-album-der-woche-87849\/\">Dogrel<\/a>\u201c. Wer nun denkt, dass es sich bei \u201eChaos For The Fly\u201c um Chattens Version eines Singer-Songwriter-Albums handelt, hat nur zum Teil recht. Die Akustikgitarre mag das dominante Instrument des Albums sein, doch Chatten und Carey schm\u00fccken die Folk-Song-Skelette mit allerlei interessanten und oftmals wundersch\u00f6nen Arrangements aus.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Zwischen Melancholie und Misanthropie<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Das Ergebnis erinnert mit seinem verschleppten Drumcomputer, Streichern und Trompeten sehr an den Melancholie-Pop von Damon Albarns Supergroup The Good, The Bad &amp; The Queen. Der Opener \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gXYRV0V5QYU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Score<\/a>\u201c ist strukturell sogar nahezu identisch mit deren eigenem Album-Opener \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kDh1BZouKps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">History Song<\/a>\u201c \u2013 und der meisterhaft stolpernde Beat von \u201eLast Time Every Time Forever\u201c h\u00e4tte auch von Tony Allen stammen k\u00f6nnen. Und auch die traurige Ruhe in der Stimme Chattens erinnert oft an die von Albarn. Doch Grian Chatten hat genug eigene Asse im \u00c4rmel. In \u201eFairlies\u201c treffen st\u00fcrmische Streicher auf rumpelndes Folk-Rock-Geschrammel. \u201eEast Coast Bed\u201c ist vertr\u00e4umter Blue-Eyed-Soul. Und das abschlie\u00dfende \u201eSeason For Pain\u201c ist ein Songwriting-Triumph, als Folk-Ballade beginnend, in ein Garage-Rock-Riff mutierend und im Dub-Groove endend.<\/p>\n<p>Doch was an Chattens Musik am meisten hervorsticht, sind seine Texte. Seine Kitchen-Sink-Dramen sind auf \u201eChaos For The Fly\u201c noch d\u00fcsterer als zuvor. Das Album ist bis zum Rand gef\u00fcllt mit Verlierer*innen, Verlassenen und anderen gescheiterten Figuren. Alles m\u00fcndet in \u201eAll Of The People\u201c: \u201ePeople are scum\u201c, croont er hier \u00fcber wehm\u00fctige Streicher und warme Piano-Akkorde \u2013 und l\u00e4sst die Misanthropie nur so aus sich herausflie\u00dfen. \u201eDon\u2019t let anyone tell you that they wanna be your friend \/ They just wanna get close enough to take the\u00a0final\u00a0shot.\u201c Dieser Menschenhass ist aber nur tempor\u00e4r. \u201eIt\u2019s a poor man\u2019s game \/ This serious life\u201c, singt er in \u201eBob&#8217;s Casino\u201c. Der titelgebende Ort mag deprimierend sein, genau wie die Songs dieses Albums. Doch am Ende siegt bei Chatten immer die Empathie.
