Es handelt sich hier nicht um irgendeinen Mann, sondern um eine Anrufbeantworter-Nachricht von Mancaris 93-j\u00e4hrigem Gro\u00dfvater. Der Inhalt des Samples ist nicht besonders tiefgr\u00fcndig, ein frei aus dem Leben gegriffener Moment allt\u00e4glicher Liebe. F\u00fcr \u201eLeft Hand\u201c, das dritte Album der in Nashville lebenden K\u00fcnstler*in ist es dennoch ein essenzieller Moment. <\/p>\n<p>2020 steckte Mancari, wie so viele, in einer tiefen Krise. In diesem Jahr wurde die zweite LP \u201eThe Greatest Part\u201c ver\u00f6ffentlicht, eine von der Kritik gefeierte, ebenso kr\u00e4ftige wie eing\u00e4ngige Indie-Folk- und Pop-Platte. Doch eine schwere Krankheit in der Familie, die Corona-Pandemie und das Ausma\u00df ihrer eigenen, lange Zeit selbst untersch\u00e4tzten Alkohol-Abh\u00e4ngigkeit warfen schwere Schatten auf diese Zeit. \u201eIch war eine Beifahrerin meines eigenen Lebens\u201c, beschreibt Mancari diese Zeit r\u00fcckblickend selbst. Nun, mit dem neuen Album, war es Zeit, wieder die Kontrolle zu \u00fcbernehmen. Und wie wurde das gemacht? Nicht etwa mit neuen Indie-Folk-Tunes, sondern mit catchy Pop-Attacken. Auf \u201eLeft Hand\u201c verheiratet Mancari nun feinsinniges, reflektiertes Songwriting mit queeren Party-Bangern. <\/p>\n<h4><strong>Ber\u00fchrende Banger<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Das Thema \u201eselbst Kontrolle ergreifen\u201c zeigt sich schon im Entstehungsprozess der LP: Es ist die erste, die Mancari selbst produziert hat. Der Sound ist vor allem eins: gro\u00df. Vom Folk ist nicht viel \u00fcbriggeblieben, stattdessen dominieren Synthesizer und Drum-Computer den Klangraum, erg\u00e4nzt von Streichern, Bl\u00e4sern und Gesangsharmonien. Und das funktioniert wundervoll: Allein \u201eOver And Over\u201c ist ein Pop-Glanzst\u00fcck vom Schlage einer Carly Rae Jepsen, das in einer gerechten Welt der allgemein akzeptierte Sommer-Hit 2023 w\u00e4re. Diese Endorphin-Sch\u00fcbe werden mit ruhigeren St\u00fccken ausbalanciert, die eher in Richtung Spoken-Word-Synth-Pop ausschlagen. Und auch hier, in zur\u00fcckgelehnten Songs wie \u201eEternity\u201c zeigt Mancari eine ungeahnte Liebe zum Pop.<\/p>\n<p>Trotz des Alleingangs in Sachen Produktion hei\u00dft das nicht, dass keine alten Wegbegleiter*innen auf \u201eLeft Hand zu h\u00f6ren sind. Mancaris langj\u00e4hrige Freundin Brittany Howard (beide spielen auch gemeinsam in der Band Bermuda Triangle) singt im Opener \u201eDon\u2019t Even Worry\u201c die Background-Vocals, w\u00e4hrend Julien Baker in besagtem Banger \u201eOver And Over\u201c zu h\u00f6ren ist. Und dann ist da nat\u00fcrlich der Gro\u00dfvater, dessen Voicemail \u201eHomesick Honeybee\u201c er\u00f6ffnet. Bei all den glitzernden Pop-Hooks gibt es im Zentrum dieses Albums eine \u00fcberaus direkte Menschlichkeit, die so gut von diesem Moment eingefangen wird. Keine gro\u00dfen Gesten, kein Melodrama, einfach ein Anruf und die Stimme eines geliebten Menschen. So ber\u00fchrend, wie Pop-Musik nur sein kann. <\/p>\n<p>Ver\u00f6ffentlichung: 25.
