Newman, dessen musikalische Karriere schon im Teenager-Alter begann, vermag es wie kaum ein anderer, Geschichten und Ansichten in vielschichtige Songs zu verpacken. Songs, die dabei nicht unbedingt aus seiner eigenen Sicht geschrieben sind. Und auch Songs, die nicht nur Geschichten, sondern auch Geschichte sein k\u00f6nnen: historische Themen und Szenarien, die er aufgreift, und in ganz eigene Betrachtungen verwandelt. Nach anf\u00e4nglichen kommerziellen Flops verschaffte ihm sein Talent mit den Alben \u201eSail Away\u201c (1972) und \u201eGood Old Boys\u201c (1974) auch anhaltenden wirtschaftlichen Erfolg. Seine Karriere als S\u00e4nger, Songschreiber, Pianist und Komponist f\u00fchrte ihn dabei auch in die Welt der Hollywoodproduktionen und brachte ihm bis heute neben sieben Grammy Awards auch zwei Oscars f\u00fcr die Soundtracks zu den Animationsfilmen \u201eMonsters, Inc.\u201c und \u201eToy Story 3\u201c ein.<\/p>\n<p>Newmans Herangehensweise ans Songwriting ist dabei oftmals von Perspektivwechseln gepr\u00e4gt, die durchaus irritieren k\u00f6nnen. Das konnte auch schon mal das Bild eines anderen Menschen sein, und wie er die Welt sieht, auch wenn man seine Sichtweisen f\u00fcr verabscheuungsw\u00fcrdig h\u00e4lt. Ein Umstand, der leicht missverstanden werden kann, und mit dem Newman durchaus polarisieren konnte. So wurde er dank seines Sarkasmus in den 70er-Jahren einerseits zu einer Art <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/sendungen\/kalamaluh\/2023-11-27\/21\/its-a-jungle-out-there-zum-80-von-randy-newman\/\">Lieblingsbarde der Intellektuellen<\/a>, w\u00e4hrend andere ihm b\u00f6se Ansichten oder gar Absichten unterstellten. Etwa wenn er sich wie im Song \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8bfyS-S-IJs&amp;ab_channel=RandyNewman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Short People<\/a>\u201c (1977) lyrisch in die K\u00f6pfe von Rednecks oder anderweitig r\u00fcckw\u00e4rtsgewandter Leute hineinversetzte. Doch auch ein Tier konnte bei ihm im Mittelpunkt stehen. So etwa auf \u201eBaltimore\u201c, unserem heutigen Track des Tages, der sich um die Metropole an der US-Ostk\u00fcste dreht, die bis heute einen eher zweifelhaften Ruf, aber auch eine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/sendungen\/kaleidoskop\/2015-11-16\/17\/baltimore-maryland\/\">interessante musikalische Geschichte<\/a> hat. Der von zartem Piano getragene Song betrachtet eine angeschlagene M\u00f6we, die in den Wirren und H\u00e4rten der titelgebenden Stadt ihren Weg zum Meer nicht findet.<\/p>\n<p>Randy Newman wurde am 28.
