Wie hast Du blo\u00df so leben k\u00f6nnen? Die thail\u00e4ndisch-schottische Musikerin stellt sie ihrem verstorbenen Gro\u00dfvater \u2013 der auf musikalisch-magische Art und Weise antworten kann. \u201eIt wasn\u2019t easy\u201c, entgegnet er, verk\u00f6rpert durch die Stimme des Gastmusikers Tony Njoku. \u201eDidn\u2019t need to mimic pain.\u201c \u201eShare Your Care\u201c, Ganyas dritte LP, ist musikalische Ahnenforschung. In der es, wie so oft in Familiengeschichten, keine einfachen Antworten gibt. <\/p>\n<p>Der urspr\u00fcngliche Impuls f\u00fcr diesen Versuch, die eigene Geschichte besser zu verstehen, war der Tod ihrer Gro\u00dfmutter im Jahr 2021 \u2013 nicht nur eine geliebte Verwandte, sondern auch ihr haupts\u00e4chlicher Bezugspunkt zu ihren thail\u00e4ndischen Wurzeln. Um diese nicht auch noch zu verlieren, begann Ganya ihre fr\u00fchen Erinnerungen an Thailand und ihre Familie dort, an ihre Gro\u00dfeltern, Tanten, Cousins, Cousinen aufzuschreiben. Diese multigenerationale Trauerarbeit bildete den Grundstein f\u00fcr \u201eShare Your Care\u201c. So ist eine der ersten Zeilen des Albums gleichzeitig ein Begr\u00e4bnis und ein Wunsch nach Verbindung: \u201eBring the bones down to where the others are \/ Bring the bones down to where you lose the path\u201c, singt Ganya im Titelsong. \u201eShare your care, bring the bones, bring the fruit and scars.\u201c<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Musikalische Ahnenforschung<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Bislang waren Ganyas LPs, das 2019er Deb\u00fct \u201eVanishing Lands\u201c und der Nachfolger \u201ePolish The Machine\u201c (2022), mehr von ihrer britischen Seite gepr\u00e4gt. Von Synth- und Psych-Pop, von New Wave und Indie-Rock. Die thail\u00e4ndischen Einfl\u00fcsse verweigerte sie, auch aus Sorge vor einem exotisierenden, orientalisierenden Blick von Westen nach Osten. Dieses Gef\u00fchl thematisiert sie explizit auf \u201eShare Your Care\u201c, in \u201eBarn Nork\u201c, ihrem ersten komplett auf Thai gesungenen Song. Der Titel bedeutet \u00fcbersetzt \u201eAu\u00dfenseiter\u201c \u2013 ein Wort, das auch von ihrer thail\u00e4ndischen Familie f\u00fcr sie verwendet wurde. <\/p>\n<p>Doch in der Musik dazu gibt sie sich ganz ihren Wurzeln hin: Erstmals t\u00e4nzeln traditionelle Thai-Instrumente, wie das xylofonartige Ranat Ek und das Streichinstrument Saw Duang, um ihre psychedelische Synthpop-Musik. Bedient werden diese Instrumente vom thail\u00e4ndischen Musiker Artit Phonron, den Ganya und ihr Produzent Rob Flynn im buddhistischen Buddhapadipa Tempel in Wimbledon kennenlernten. Anderswo auf dem Album spielt Chinnathip Poollap das oboen\u00e4hnliche Blasinstrument Pi. Im Text von \u201eBarn Nork\u201c beschreibt Ganya ihr Au\u00dfenseiterinnentum, musikalisch demonstriert sie aber eine erfolgreiche Zusammenf\u00fchrung beider Welten. <\/p>\n<p>Synthpop-Glanzst\u00fccke wie \u201eFortune\u201c bekommen durch den klackernden Sound von Phonros Khim eine ganz neue Tiefe, noch weiter verst\u00e4rkt vom Text, in dem Ganya ihre Mutter anspricht: \u201eYou changed your name \/ You knew the game \/ Fortune would bless you in another life.\u201c Die Fusion aus ostasiatischen Sounds und westlichem Pop ist nicht neu \u2013 Khruangbin bauten ihre ganze Karriere auf der Kombination aus Thai-Funk, Surf-Rock und Psych-Pop auf.
