Maria Somerville schlie\u00dft einen Kreis bei 4AD<\/h6>\n

Unser heutiger Track des Tages \u201eStonefly\u201c ist die dritte Single aus dem kommenden Album der irischen Singer-Songwriterin Maria Somerville. An der irischen Westk\u00fcste im County Galway aufgewachsen, kann man sich vorstellen, wie die Landschaft und das raue Klima ihre Musik gepr\u00e4gt haben k\u00f6nnten. Zwar zog sie sp\u00e4ter nach Dublin und begann dort, ihren Sound auszuarbeiten, jedoch klingt ihr Dreampop<\/a>-Ansatz nicht gerade nach dem gesch\u00e4ftigen Leben einer Gro\u00dfstadt. So rei\u00dfen in Somervilles Songs tiefe Schluchten ein, durch die geisterhaft-verwunschene Hallfahnen wehen wie Meeresbrisen. W\u00e4hrend die St\u00fccke voller Sch\u00f6nheit und Melodie stecken, erscheinen sie zugleich vage und schemenhaft. Ungef\u00e4hr wie eine Gestalt auf einem umbrandeten Felsen, die man aus der Ferne zu erkennen glaubt, die aber auch ein Trugbild sein k\u00f6nnte. Am Ende wei\u00df man nicht mehr, ob das, was man sieht, beziehungsweise h\u00f6rt, allein der sinnlichen Wahrnehmung entspringt, oder das Unterbewusstsein sich etwas dichterische Freiheit erlaubt hat.<\/p>\n

Die neuen Songs klingen etwas klarer als Maria Somervilles Deb\u00fctalbum \u201eAll My People\u201c (2019). H\u00f6chstwahrscheinlich jedoch ist dieser Umstand vor allem dem besseren Budget geschuldet. Denn w\u00e4hrend das selbstverlegte \u201eAll My People\u201c eine DIY-Angelegenheit war, erscheint die zweite LP \u201eLuster\u201c nun auf dem gro\u00dfen Indie-Label 4AD. \u201eKlarer\u201c bedeutet im vorliegenden Fall aber nicht, dass die Musik nicht mehr nach nebelverhangenen K\u00fcstenlandschaften kl\u00e4nge. An den St\u00fccken arbeitete Maria Somerville sogar in der Landschaft ihrer Jugend, in Connemara, mit Blick auf den Lough Corrib, den gr\u00f6\u00dften See Irlands. Gerade durch die aufger\u00e4umteren Produktion verdeutlichen die neuen Lieder, wie sehr die atmosph\u00e4rische Verschwommenheit beabsichtigt ist. Doch statt mit Lo-Fi-Verhuschtheit erscheinen sie mit neuem k\u00fcnstlerischen Selbstbewusstsein. Statt an Slowcore erinnert \u201eLuster\u201c eher an Cocteau Twins. Womit sich ein Kreis schlie\u00dft, denn diese geh\u00f6rten zu den Bands, die 4AD einmal gro\u00df machten.<\/p>\n
