Zwar kommen Juliette \u201eJuju\u201c Pearl Davis und Joachim \u201eJojo\u201c Polack urspr\u00fcnglich aus Frankreich, wohnen aber seit langer Zeit in den USA. So lange, dass ihnen ihre Pariser Zeit wie ein anderes Leben vorkommt. Nach einem ersten Anlauf in Florida haben sie in Kalifornien eine neue Heimat gefunden. Wie die Band ist in Los Angeles auch das Label Stones Throw Records zu Hause. Dort ver\u00f6ffentlichte das Duo im Herbst 2024 seinen bisherigen Album-H\u00f6hepunkt \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/blog\/rezensionen\/pearl-the-oysters-planet-pearl-rezension-146469\/\">Planet Pearl<\/a>\u201c. Auf dem gro\u00dfen, understateten Weird-Pop-Wurf tobten sich Pearl &amp; The Oysters in ihrer nerdigen Welt aus. Doch so seltsam und verwinkelt sich die Songs bei n\u00e4herer Betrachtung erweisen, ist ihre Oberfl\u00e4che einladend und poppig.<\/p>\n<p>Wenige Monate nach der Ver\u00f6ffentlichung dieser wunderbaren LP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tagesschau.de\/ausland\/amerika\/los-angeles-usa-waldbrand-evakuierung-110.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">verw\u00fcstete eine Naturgewalt<\/a> die neue Heimat der Band. So richteten Anfang 2025 Waldbr\u00e4nde Verheerungen von historischem Ausma\u00df an. Auf ihrer neuen Single versucht die Band, den Beginn dieser schweren Zeit in Worte zu fassen. So versteht sie die Single als \u201eabstrakten Versuch, die schreckliche Nacht, in der das Eaton-Feuer in Los Angeles ausbrach, zu beschreiben\u201c. Im Text schl\u00e4gt sich das weniger als Geschichte nieder denn als Aneinanderreihung von Eindr\u00fccken. Die existenzielle Bedrohung und Jujus melancholischen Gesang kontrastiert ein beschwingter Groove. Die klanglichen Vorbilder kommen aus den brasilianischen fr\u00fchen 1970ern. Damals bewegten sich K\u00fcnstler*innen wie Jo\u00e3o Donato und Marcos Valle vom Bossa Nova in eine druckvollere Samba-Funk-Richtung. Mit den mittlerweile in L.A. ans\u00e4ssigen Musikern Tim Bernardes und Pedro Martins kommt auch die Rhythmussektion aus Brasilien.<\/p>\n<p>Die Single \u201eSous la lune mandarine\u201c von Pearl &amp; The Oysters ist auf dem Label Stones Throw Records erschienen.
