Album von Sleaford Mods, ist ein Album \u00fcber die Apokalypse. Davon gibt es in der Pop-Musik so viele wie Sand am Meer. Shouter\/MC Jason Williamson und Produzent und Beatmaker Andrew Fearn pr\u00e4sentieren im vorliegenden Fall ihre bodenst\u00e4ndige, sozialkritische Vision des Untergangs, die sehr gut mit dem schmutzigen Kitchen-Sink-Elektro-Punk des Duos aus Nottingham korrespondiert: Was, wenn der Planet nicht in einer Explosion endet, sondern langsam ausblutet? Kein spektakul\u00e4res Inferno, keine Reiter und Trompeten, sondern, in den Worten von Williamson, \u201edas Gleiche, nur schlimmer\u201c, immer und immer weiter? T.S. Eliot beschrieb dieses Szenario schon 1925 in seinem Gedicht \u201eDie hohlen M\u00e4nner\u201c: \u201eAuf diese Art geht die Welt zugrund \/ Nicht mit einem Knall: mit Gewimmer\u201c. Und die Mods erg\u00e4nzen im Track \u201eFlood The Zone\u201c: \u201eThere\u2019s no wonder in people who say \/ \u201aThe world&#8217;s changing\u2018, no it ain&#8217;t \/ You\u2019re just scared to death through hate\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>Hass, Missinformation, Krieg und \u00dcberkonsum ist, was diese stumpfe Apokalypse antreibt. Der Protagonist von \u201eThe Unwrap\u201c redet beim Ausgehen nur \u00fcber das Einkaufen und denkt auf dem Sofa nur ans Auspacken (\u201eYeah I just fucking buy stuff now\u201c). \u201eWho\u2019s the original printer? \/ Who\u2019s shoving the images on ta ya!\u201c, fragt Williamson in \u201eShoving The Images\u201c, angesichts einer endlosen Flut aus traumatisierenden Clips in den Sozialen Medien. \u201eEndless war \/ Whether you like it or not\u201c. Und in \u201eBad Santa\u201c werden zeitgen\u00f6ssische Hass-Prediger direkt genamedropt, vom misogynen Male-Rights-Aktivisten Andrew Tate bis zu einem gewissen Pr\u00e4sidenten\/Imperator namens \u201eDon\u201c.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Stumpfe Apokalypse &amp; neue Sounds<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Allesamt keine neuen Themen im Hause Sleaford Mods, ein Duo, das seit 15 Jahren in verl\u00e4sslichem Rhythmus sp\u00e4tkapitalistische P\u00f6bel-Rap-LPs ver\u00f6ffentlicht. Was \u201eThe Demise Of Planet X\u201c aber zu einer ihrer besten macht ist das, was in ihrer Karriere bislang relativ wenig Variation erfahren hat: die Musik. So weit wie hier wichen sie noch nie von ihrer bew\u00e4rten Formel \u2013 Williamsons roher Slang-Flow plus Fearns minimalistische Post-Punk-Grime-Beats \u2013 ab. Bislang klangen die Alben gr\u00f6\u00dftenteils so, als w\u00e4ren sie komplett auf Fearns Laptop komponiert und produziert worden, doch hier merkt man direkt, dass Teile der Platte in den legend\u00e4ren Abbey Road Studios aufgenommen wurden. Songs wie \u201eDouble Diamond\u201c und \u201eDon Draper\u201c klingen mit ihren laid-back Grooves und Piano-Tupfern fast nach Northern Soul, w\u00e4hrend das Gitarren-Arpeggio von \u201eBad Santa\u201c Erinnerungen an den Trip-Hop von Massive Attack weckt.<\/p>\n<p>Noch aufregender ist die Wahl der Gastmusiker*innen: Im Opener \u201eThe Good Life\u201c trifft \u201eGame-Of-Thrones\u201c-Schauspielerin Gwendoline Christie eine*n mit ihrem unerwarteten Schaum-am-Mund-Flow genau in die Breitseite. In \u201eNo Touch\u201c werfen sich Williamson und Sue Tompkins von der Post-Punk-Band Life Without Buildings die Spoken-Word-B\u00e4lle zu, w\u00e4hrend S\u00e4nger Liam Bailey mit Reggae-Vibes das w\u00fctende \u201eFlood The Zone\u201c kontrastiert. Den Preis f\u00fcr den gr\u00f6\u00dften Kontrast gewinnt aber \u201eElitest G.O.A.T.\u201c, ein Duett zwischen der Schmirgelpapier-Stimme von Williamson und dem warmen Gesang der Indie-Folk-Musikerin Aldous Harding. Diese farbenfrohe Klangpalette sorgt daf\u00fcr, dass Oldschool-Mods-Tracks wie \u201eMegaton\u201c umso h\u00e4rter einschlagen.
