Was sich wie die Caption eines k\u00e4sigen Reels von Hobby-Therapeut*innen auf Instagram liest, ist f\u00fcr die britische Singer-Songwriterin ein essenzieller und entscheidender Glaubenssatz.<\/p>\n<p>Die erste Solo-LP der einstigen H\u00e4lfte des britisch-US-amerikanischen Duos Big Deal ist inhaltlich ein sehr schweres Werk geworden. Costelloe setzt sich hier intensiv mit ihrer Beziehung zu ihrem suchtkranken Vater auseinander. Die zehn Lieder oszillieren zwischen naiv-kindlicher Idealisierung und erwachsener Entt\u00e4uschung. \u201ePlease don&#8217;t say it&#8217;s all for me\u201c, singt sie im Opener \u201eAnywhere Else\u201c \u2013 \u201eI would rather be \/ Somewhere where the light gets in\u201c. Ein Song \u00fcber den Wunsch nach Abgrenzung \u2013 und das Scheitern daran. Denn: \u201eBut when I get the call from the hospital \/ What else can I do \/ But go and be with you?\u201c<\/p>\n<p>\u201eHow can I still adore you?\u201c, fragt sie weiter in \u201eHow Can I\u201c. Wie kann sie trotz all des Schwerzes diesen Menschen immer noch anhimmeln? Eine komplexe, traumatische Verknotung, die die Londonerin in dieser Handvoll Songs nicht aufschl\u00fcsseln kann. Und auch nicht will \u2013 denn sie wollte nicht einfach nur ein trauriges Album mit traurigen Liedern \u00fcber traurige Themen schreiben. Eine wichtige Inspiration f\u00fcr den Balance-Akt von \u201eMove On With The Year\u201c war ein Zitat ihrer kanadischen Kollegin Feist: \u201eWenn Du etwas oft genug sagst oder singst, wird es zu einer selbsterf\u00fcllenden Prophezeiung.\u201c Um sich also nicht Lied um Lied im eigenen Leid zu suhlen, schrieb Costelloe diesen entscheidenen Satz: Ich bin gut, ich bin genug, ich bin von Liebe umgeben. Affirmation statt Manifestation. <\/p>\n<h4><strong>Weitermachen als Akt des Widerstands<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Die Musik, die ihre bitters\u00fc\u00dfen Zeilen umgibt, tut ihr \u00fcbriges. Gemeinsam mit ihrem Produzenten Mike Lindsay (unter anderem bekannt durch seine Arbeiten mit Tunng oder Lump) hat Costelloe einen federleichten Sound zwischen Barock-, Folk- und Art-Pop erschaffen, der das Gewicht der Texte leichter wirken l\u00e4sst. Der zart groovende Dreampop von \u201eEvery Time\u201c geht \u00fcber in die schwerelos durch den Synthesizer- und Mellotron-\u00c4ther schwebende Ballade \u201eToo Late Now\u201c. In \u201eIf I Could Reach You\u201c blitzt ein wenig der Grunge und Shoegaze ihrer Big-Deal-Zeit durch, aber ohne zu explodieren \u2013 stattdessen m\u00fcndet die verzerrte Gitarre in eine schillernde Wall Of Sound aus Chor und Synths.<\/p>\n<p>In \u201eAnywhere Else\u201c t\u00e4nzeln zahlreiche Blockfl\u00f6ten um Costelloes gefasste Stimme. Ein wenig schief, doch in ihrer Gesamtheit strahlend sch\u00f6n. Ein fast schon trotziger Kontrapunkt, der auch gut zum Titel dieses Albums passt: \u201eMove On With The Year\u201c impliziert ein \u00dcberleben und Weitermachen. Was angesichts von Trauma der gr\u00f6\u00dfte Trotz sein kann.
