National Wake widersetzten sich dem Apartheid-Regime (Foto: Albumcover von \u201eWalk In Africa 1979\u201381\u201c, Light In The Attic)<\/h6>\n

\u201eWake Of The Nation\u201c ist ein Song aus der Fr\u00fchphase des s\u00fcdafrikanischen Punks. In den sp\u00e4ten 1970ern entstand die Band National Wake aus \u201eder vielleicht dissidentischsten Musikszene des 20. Jahrhunderts: eine multiethnische Punkband in einem faschistischen Polizeistaat\u201c. Damit meinte der Tschechische Rundfunk das damalige Apartheid-Regime. Schon durch ihre Besetzung widersetzten sich National Wake dessen rassistischer Segregationspolitik. In der Folge des Aufstands in Soweto im Jahr 1976 ging die Band aus den Jam-Sessions einer Untergrund-Kommune hervor. Die Band war<\/em> punk; Punk-Rock hingegen nur eine ihrer musikalischen Facetten. Doch auch Tropical Funk, Reggae und s\u00fcdafrikanische Stile pr\u00e4gten ihren Sound. Ihr einziges Album erschien im Jahr 1981. Allerdings war es nicht lange erh\u00e4ltlich: Das Regime untersagte \u00f6ffentliche Auftritte und zog die LP nach nur 700 verkauften Einheiten aus dem Verkehr. Nachdem der 2012er Dokumentarfilm \u201ePunk In Africa\u201c neues Interesse an der Band entfachte, erschienen eine Neuauflage und die Werkschau \u201eWalk In Africa 1979\u201381\u201c.<\/p>\n

Der Song \u201eWake Of The Nation\u201c von National Wake erschien 2013 bei Light In The Attic auf der Compilation \u201eWalk In Africa 1979\u201381\u201c. Heute ist das St\u00fcck im Rahmen unserer Punk-Themenwoche unser Track des Tages. Auf die Verbindung von Punk und Reggae gehen in dieser Woche gleich zwei Sendungen in unserem Programm ein: So spielt Karsten Frehe am 21. April ab 18 Uhr bei Forward The Bass<\/a> unter anderem Songs der Band Dubmones, die Songs der Ramones reggaefizierten. Johannes Paetzold beleuchtet am 24. April um 20 Uhr in seiner Sendung Planet Groove<\/a> unter anderem die politische Seite von Ska und Two-tone.<\/p>\n
