Was als Studioprojekt zwischen  Stephen Malkmus und Scott Kannberg begann, transformierte bald in eine kleine Bewegung: harsche Feedback-Ger\u00e4usche, lakonische Lyrics, wei\u00dfes Rauschen \u2013 das kam nicht nur bei John Peel an, sondern auch bei der amerikanischen und britischen Indie-Jugend, die damals wirklich noch Indie verk\u00f6rperte, sagt man, und denke an Matador Records und ein 800-Dollar-Albumbudget.<\/p>\n<p>1993 verlie\u00df der Schlagzeuger Gary Young die Band und mit ihm ging der vernebelte Sound. Pavement hatten nun einen Drummer, der den Takt halten konnte, und einen Hit auf MTV: \u201eCut Your Hair\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>Mittlerweile ist Stephen Malkmus, der S\u00e4nger und Gitarrist, unter eigenem Namen musikalisch aktiv, Pavement sind seit 1999 mehr oder minder Geschichte. Mit seiner Band, den Jicks, hat Malkmus inzwischen f\u00fcnf Alben aufgenommen, \u201eMirror Traffic\u201c hei\u00dft die aktuelle. Als Produzent fungiert darauf Beck. Uns hat Malkmus erz\u00e4hlt, er und die Band h\u00e4tten schon l\u00e4nger nach jemandem Ausschau gehalten, mit dem man zusammenarbeiten k\u00f6nne. Als es zu einem Telefongespr\u00e4ch mit Beck kam, war die Sache geritzt: \u201eIch habe es als Zeichen gesehen: Wir sollten das jetzt machen und nicht zu lange dar\u00fcber nachdenken\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>Und in der Tat h\u00f6ren sich die 15 gitarrenlastigen Songs auf \u201eMirror Traffic\u201c eher spontan als durchdacht an, eher l\u00e4ssig als verkrampft. Das gibt den vokalen Sperenzien von Stephen Malkmus gen\u00fcgend Platz zum Wirken, dann zum Beispiel, wenn er es schafft, das h\u00e4ssliche Wort Birkenstock in einem Song unterzubringen. <\/p>\n<p>Das ByteFM Album der Woche \u2013 mit freundlicher Unterst\u00fctzung von Panasonic.<\/p>\n<p>Jeden Tag spielen wir im ByteFM Magazin zwischen 15 und 17 Uhr einen Song aus unserem Album der Woche.
