Tr\u00e4gt Laura Gibson etwas unter dieser Decke, die sie da auf dem Cover ihres neuen Albums „La Grande“ um sich schlingt? Das ist meiner Meinung nach eine durchaus berechtigte Frage (ich sage mit Absicht \u201eberechtigt\u201c, da ich mir selbst nicht ganz sicher bin, ob \u201eangebracht\u201c hier \u2026 nun ja, angebracht w\u00e4re), da das zurzeit grassierende New Folk Movement (Fleet Foxes seien hier nur kurz als bekannteste Vertreter genannt), zu der man Frau Gibson gut und gerne z\u00e4hlen kann, doch teils starke Assoziationen zu ihren Hippievorl\u00e4ufern weckt \u2013 und die waren ja auch oft, mit Verlaub, nackig.<\/p>\n

Sowieso scheint die Musikerin sehr naturverbunden zu sein: Das Album (ihr mittlerweile f\u00fcnftes) wurde nach einem 13.000-Seelen-Kaff ungef\u00e4hr f\u00fcnf Autostunden entfernt von Frau Gibsons Homebase, Amerikas Hipster- und Hippie-Hochburg Portland, umgeben von W\u00e4ldern und Seen aufgenommen \u2013 ihr Arbeitsplatz war dabei ein alter Wohnwagen, den sie selbst zum Studio hergerichtet hat. Gibson selbst beschreibt „La Grande“ als einen Ort, durch den man normalerweise auf dem Weg irgendwo anders hin durchf\u00e4hrt, der dabei aber eine gewisse Anziehungskraft und Energie besitzt, eine Anziehungskraft, der sie selbst dann offenbar erlag.<\/p>\n

Aus „La Grande“ ist dabei auch ein Album geworden, das an gewissen Stellen zum Bleiben und Verweilen fernab vom hektischen Stress des Alltags einl\u00e4dt. Doch scheinbar paradoxerweise tut gerade das der Titeltrack nicht: Der Song \u201eLa Grande\u201c galoppiert nach vorne, bis er nach der H\u00e4lfte stolpert und der Beat Platz macht f\u00fcr einen Chor, der an die eingangs bereits erw\u00e4hnten Fleet Foxes erinnert. Doch bevor man verschnaufen kann, geht\u2019s auch schon weiter. Ein bisschen sp\u00e4ter h\u00f6rt man dann Bossa-Nova-Rhythmen, Highway-61-Revisited-Orgeln und wehleidige Slidegitarren. Ist nicht gerade progressiv heutzutage, aber durchaus nett anzuh\u00f6ren und man muss der Platte zugutehalten, dass nicht ein Filler zu finden ist; jeder Song hat seine Momente – ob \u201eThe Rushing Dark\u201c mit seiner Bei-Regen-zu-Hause-sitzen-Atmosph\u00e4re oder \u201eMilk-Heavy, Pollen-Eyed\u201c, in dem sie die Sch\u00f6nheit der Schwere langer Beziehungen besingt, in denen man einfach nicht anders kann, als immer wieder zum Partner zu finden.<\/p>\n

Abschlie\u00dfend m\u00f6chte ich dann hier eine klare Kaufempfehlung f\u00fcr „La Grande“ aussprechen \u2013 vor allem f\u00fcr die Menschen, die die Musik von Joanna Newsom m\u00f6gen, aber mit ihrer Mausstimme nicht klarkommen.<\/p>\n
