Um eventueller Verwirrung vorzubeugen: The National Jazz Trio Of Scotland ist weder ein Trio noch besonders dem Jazz verpflichtet. Doch diese „Entt\u00e4uschung“ h\u00e4lt sich in Grenzen angesichts „Standards Vol. III“, dem dritten Album der schottischen Truppe, das Ende Juni erscheint.<\/p>\n

Seit drei Jahrzehnten mischt der Multiinstrumentalist Bill Wells die schottische Musikszene geh\u00f6rig auf und spielt in den unterschiedlichsten Formationen. 2007 gr\u00fcndet er The National Jazz Trio Of Scotland, ein Projekt, womit Wells etwas sehr pers\u00f6nliches realisiert: „And for me these National Jazz Trio Of Scotland records are probably the closest I\u2019ve got to doing something as I intended.“ 2012 gab es eine wahrlich stimmungsvolle Bescherung: Nicht viele Bands erw\u00e4hlen als Erstver\u00f6ffentlichung ein Weihnachtsalbum. Und tats\u00e4chlich ist der Start von The National Jazz Trio Of Scotland schon zu Beginn weit von traditionellem Jazz entfernt. Es sind die Stimmen von Aby Vulliamy, Kate Sugden und Lorna Gilfedder, die dem Deb\u00fct den n\u00f6tigen, schwerelos-harmonischen Anstrich geben. „Standards Vol. II“ erscheint im Jahr darauf, der erste Teil der Reihe ist und bleibt wohl unver\u00f6ffentlicht.<\/p>\n

Der Gro\u00dfteil der Songs auf „Standards Vol. III“ wird von Wells in seinem eigenen Apartment in Glasgow geschrieben, aufgenommen und produziert. Dabei bleibt er wie der Titel vermuten l\u00e4sst seinem eingeschlagenen Weg treu: Der Kreativkopf legt den Fokus auf weiche Melodien und die Stimmen der drei S\u00e4ngerinnen. Rhythmische Begleitung spielt eine untergeordnete Rolle. Dies wird beim chorischen Cover „With Me Tonight“ von den Beach Boys besonders deutlich. „Unguarded Moment“ beginnt mit einer tapsigen, filmmusikartigen ersten H\u00e4lfte, bevor der 6\/8-Takt dem Song eine unerwartete Wendung bringt. Den Abschluss des Albums bildet das sechsmin\u00fctige „Trying To Escape You“, welches sich gekonnt durch Tonartwechsel schl\u00e4ngelt und wohl das Paradebeispiel f\u00fcr Wells\u2019 Wunsch nach „light and airy“ Songs ist. Dies ist ihm gelungen, in jeglicher Hinsicht. „Standards Vol. III“ lebt von der puristischen Instrumentation und dem sanften, mehrstimmigen Gesang. Die Messlatte f\u00fcr „Standards Vol. IV“ liegt hoch …<\/p>\n
