Fast 15 Jahre gab es keine neue Musik von D\u2019Angelo und pl\u00f6tzlich ist sein Comeback-Album da. Vollkommen unerwartet, ohne jede Vorwarnung. Von dem Mann, der sich mit \u201eBrown Sugar\u201c und \u201eVoodoo\u201c gegen Ende des letzten Jahrhunderts zur Soul-Hoffnung \u00fcberhaupt aufschwang, um anschlie\u00dfend ganz tief zu fallen. Rechtliche Probleme wegen Drogenbesitzes und ein schwerer Autounfall legten die Karriere des erwarteten Neo-Soul-Heilsbringers Michael Eugene Archer lange Zeit lahm. Bis jetzt, denn mit \u201eBlack Messiah\u201c feiert D\u2019Angelo eine so unerwartete wie spektakul\u00e4re R\u00fcckkehr.<\/p>\n<p>Es ist die politische Situation in den Vereinigten Staaten, die D\u2019Angelo zu diesem Schritt bewegte. Sein erst f\u00fcr 2015 geplantes Album wollte er sofort ver\u00f6ffentlichen, als er von dem Freispruch des Polizisten Darren Wilson h\u00f6rte, der in Ferguson den Sch\u00fcler Michael Brown erschossen hatte. Der Musiker aus Virginia wollte ein Zeichen setzen, kontaktierte sein Label RCA und in wenigen Tagen war \u201eBlack Messiah\u201c fertig f\u00fcr die Ver\u00f6ffentlichung. D\u2019Angelo wollte sich \u00e4u\u00dfern, so sagt er selbst, und das k\u00f6nne er am besten durch Musik.<\/p>\n<p>Schon das Cover von \u201eBlack Messiah\u201c spricht eine deutliche Sprache. Es entstand beim j\u00e4hrlichen Konzert der Kreativagentur Afropunk, bei dem auch D\u2019Angelo bereits als Headliner auftrat. Die H\u00e4nde des Publikums sind zum Protest gereckt. Musikalisch kann der Souls\u00e4nger schwer aus seiner Haut und \u00fcberzeugt mit seiner butterweichen Stimme und dem warmen Groove. Doch ziehen sich die Songs nicht wie gewohnt s\u00e4mig durch das Album. \u201eBlack Messiah\u201c wirkt chaotischer, wie eine Ansammlung verschiedenster Ideen. Alle Songs wurden innerhalb von drei Tagen komplett analog aufgenommen. Es ist der direkte Ausdruck des K\u00fcnstlers D\u2019Angelo in all seiner Gr\u00f6\u00dfe.
