So originalgetreu wirkt die Grafik, die der K\u00fcnstler Robert Beatty aus Kentucky gestaltet hat. Trifft aber die Nadel einmal das Vinyl, ist klar zu h\u00f6ren, dass &#8222;Currents&#8220; ein aktuelles Werk ist. Das mag jedoch etwas mehr an der klaren Produktion als an den Songideen liegen. Die 13 Tracks der Platte bedienen sich un\u00fcberh\u00f6rbar an 70er-Funk und 80er-Pop, bringen verschiedene Einfl\u00fcsse zu einem Strom zusammen.<\/p>\n<p>Stichwort Strom: Der Titel &#8222;Currents&#8220;, zu deutsch &#8222;Str\u00f6me&#8220;, ist Programm. Der Australier Kevin Parker, Mittelpunkt, Kopf und Produzent von Tame Impala, hat sehr viel Pers\u00f6nliches in das Album einflie\u00dfen lassen. Es handelt davon, die eigene Pers\u00f6nlichkeit in eine Richtung zu \u00e4ndern, die man nie f\u00fcr m\u00f6glich hielt. Die Texte auf dem Album fallen selbstkritisch und philosophisch aus. Parkers Stimme steht im Gegensatz zum Tame-Impala-Album &#8222;Lonerism&#8220; ganz vorn. Der Hall-reiche Rock vom letztem Album musste vielschichtigeren, spacigen Kompositionen weichen.<\/p>\n<p>Dass Ver\u00e4nderung ansteht, macht der fast achtmin\u00fctige Opener &#8222;Let It Happen&#8220; klar. Er startet energisch mit straightem Beat und atmosph\u00e4rischen Synths, nimmt nach und nach mehr Fahrt auf, taucht manchmal unter Wasser und geht am Ende vollends in einem Disco-Pop-Sound auf, der an das Meisterwerk &#8222;Discovery&#8220; von Daft Punk erinnert. Weltall-Kl\u00e4nge, schillernde Echos, und ausufernde Keyboards nehmen viel Platz auf &#8222;Currents&#8220; ein. Das knackige Schlagzeug wirkt aber dem totalen Benebelungsgef\u00fchl entgegen.<\/p>\n<p>Und zwischen all den \u00e4therischen Discoschwaden gibt es auch handfeste Popst\u00fccke. &#8222;The Moment&#8220; ist so eines, mit Harmoniegesang, beschwingter Bassline und elektronischen Bl\u00e4sern. Im \u00e4hnlichen Geiste, angef\u00fchrt von einer funkigen Gitarrenmelodie, schwingt &#8222;The Less I Know The Better&#8220; mit. Und &#8222;New Person, Same Old Mistakes&#8220;, das &#8222;Currents&#8220; abschlie\u00dft, klingt vergleichsweise klar und rockig und kn\u00fcpft damit an &#8222;Lonerism&#8220; an.<\/p>\n<p>Trotzdem, den Tausch von psychedelischer Gitarre gegen bet\u00f6rende Synths, kann man nur bef\u00fcrworten.<\/p>\n<p>Ver\u00f6ffentlichung: 17.
