Die Zeile stammt aus dem Song \u201eThe Soul Serene\u201c und ist Namensgeber f\u00fcr die neue Platte von Villagers.<\/p>\n<p>Erst im April des letzten Jahres erschien mit \u201eDarling Arithmetic\u201c das dritte Album der Indie-Folk-Band aus Dublin. Und die bis dato fragilste und pers\u00f6nlichste. \u201eDarling Arithmetic\u201c entstand im Home-Studio von Conor O\u2019Brien. Er schrieb nicht nur den Gro\u00dfteil der Songs selbst, bei den Aufnahmen fungierte er als Toningenieur und Produzent und mischte die Platte selbst ab. So etwas braucht Zeit, besonders in Eigenregie. Ganz anders lief die Entstehung von \u201eWhere Have You Been All My Life?\u201c ab.<\/p>\n<p>Das Album besteht nicht aus brandneuem Material, es ist vielmehr eine Werkschau von Villagers. Zusammen mit den Villagers-Kollegen Cormac Curran und Danny Snow sowie mit Gwion Llewelyn und Mali Llywelyn ging O\u2019Brien in die Londoner RAK Studios und sie legten los. Curran an Fl\u00fcgel und Synthesizer, Snow am Kontrabass, Llywelyn an Harfe und Mellotron und Llewelyn am Schlagzeug und am Fl\u00fcgelhorn. F\u00fcr jedes Lied brauchten sie nur ein oder zwei Anl\u00e4ufe, alles wurde live eingespielt, im Nachhinein nichts dar\u00fcber gespielt. Hier muss Magie im Raum gewesen sein, sie l\u00e4sst sich auf den zw\u00f6lf St\u00fccken heraush\u00f6ren.<\/p>\n<p>\u201eCourage\u201c, das im Original aus nicht viel mehr als O\u2019Briens Stimme und Akustikgitarre besteht, bekommt dank Backing-Vocals und gespenstischen Synthie-Fl\u00e4chen eine neue, leichte Qualit\u00e4t. Ganz wunderbar kommt der Kontrabass beim zauberhaften \u201eMemoir\u201c zur Geltung, ein Song, den O\u2019Brien urspr\u00fcnglich f\u00fcr Charlotte Gainsbourg geschrieben hatte. Und \u201eThe Soul Serene\u201c hebt mit Mellotron und Harfe in neue Sph\u00e4ren ab. Die unmittelbare, zerbrechliche Atmosph\u00e4re von \u201eDarling Arithmetic\u201c wurde gegen glanzvolle Instrumentierungen, schwelgerische Kompositionen getauscht.
