Dass Jack White besessen ist vom Medium Vinyl, ist nichts Neues. Ausdruck dieser Leidenschaft ist nicht zuletzt sein eigenes Label Third Man Records<\/a>, das er 2001 in Detroit gr\u00fcndete, und das Singles und Alben in erster Linie auf Vinyl ver\u00f6ffentlicht.<\/p>\n

Seit 2009 ist das Label in Nashville, Tennessee beheimatet und vor Kurzem verlie\u00df die dreimillionste Vinylscheibe das Presswerk. Um das geb\u00fchrend zu feiern, m\u00f6chten Jack White und seine Mitstreiter nun eine Platte ins Weltall bef\u00f6rdern und dort abspielen. Bereits am 20. Juli hat das Label ein Teaser-Video<\/a> ver\u00f6ffentlicht, in dem Gro\u00dfes angek\u00fcndigt wurde. Jetzt konkretisieren sich die Pl\u00e4ne: Am 30. Juli soll mit einem eigens entworfenen Plattenspieler, dem \u201eIcarus Craft\u201c, eine vergoldete Ausgabe von Carl Sagans \u201eA Glorious Dawn\u201c in luftiger H\u00f6he abgespielt werden.<\/p>\n

In einem Statement des Labels hei\u00dft es:<\/p>\n

Am 30. Juli, anl\u00e4sslich des siebten Geburtstags von Third Man Records, werden wir versuchen, die erste Schallplatte im Weltall zu spielen \u2013 eine vergoldete 12 Inch von Carl Sagans \u201eA Glorious Dawn\u201c. Bei dieser Aufnahme handelt es sich um eine Spoken-Word-Collage, basierend auf Sagans Doku-Serie \u201eCosmos\u201c, die bereits in unserem ersten Betriebsjahr in Nashville ver\u00f6ffentlicht worden ist, und nebenbei unsere dreimillionste Pressung markiert. Das Gef\u00e4hrt, das wir mit der Mission beauftragen, der \u201eIcarus Craft\u201c, ist ein eigens angefertigter, weltraumtauglicher Plattenspieler, der an einen speziellen Ballon angebracht wird. Entworfen wurde dieser von Kevin Carrico, der auch f\u00fcr die Instandsetzung vieler Maschinen bei Third Man Records verantwortlich ist. Kevin und das Team von Third Man Records werden au\u00dferdem von SATINS (Students And Teachers In Near Space) unterst\u00fctzt. <\/em><\/p>\n

Dass das Transportmittel, eine Art riesiger Ballon, lediglich eine H\u00f6he von etwa 50 Kilometern erreichen kann und sich damit immer noch innerhalb der Erdatmosph\u00e4re (und nicht im Weltall) befindet, d\u00fcrfte die Vorfreude von Jack White und Co. wohl nicht schm\u00e4lern. F\u00fcr den 30. Juli sind in Nashville und Detroit jedenfalls gro\u00dfe Launch-Partys geplant. Der Start des \u201eIcarus Craft\u201c soll dann au\u00dferdem als Online-Stream verf\u00fcgbar sein.<\/p>\n
