Dabei scheint sie zum Ende eines verstanden zu haben: Das beste Mittel gegen Tr\u00e4nen ist Lachen. Und so fordert uns die furchtlose K\u00f6nigin des Retro-Souls auf dem posthumen Album \u201eSoul Of A Woman\u201c ein letztes Mal zum Tanz auf. <\/p>\n<p>Schon der Opener \u201eMatter Of Time\u201c insistiert mit seinem beschwingt geshuffleten Beat und seinen unwiderstehlichen \u201eOh Yeahs\u201c auf kathartische gute Laune. Die Botschaft ist klar: Wenn Sharon Jones schon von dieser Erde gehen soll, dann aber mit einer exzessiven Party. Jones hat auch im Alter von 60 Jahren noch nichts von ihrem Feuer verloren und l\u00e4chelt mit der Autorit\u00e4t einer Hohepriesterin dem bevorstehendem j\u00fcngsten Gericht strahlend entgegen: \u201eIt\u2018s a matter of time \/ Till justice will come.\u201c <\/p>\n<p>Die komplette A-Seite von \u201eSoul Of A Woman\u201c demonstriert mit voller Kraft die \u00fcbersprudelnde Energie von Sharon Jones: Auf Songs wie dem bl\u00e4serlastigen \u201eSail On\u201c oder dem frech groovenden \u201eRumors\u201c klingt sie strahlend und kraftvoll wie die junge Aretha Franklin. Die Dap-Kings, ihre langj\u00e4hrige Begleitband, mit der der New Yorkerin 2002 der internationale Durchbruch gelang, sind dabei so tight wie eh und je und geben Jones angemessen viel Platz f\u00fcr ihre Stimme. Hinter dem knisternd warmen Klang des Albums steckt viel Liebe zum Detail: Produzent und Dap-Kings-Bassist Bosco Mann hat die elf Songs in bester Retro-Manier auf Achtspurband gebannt. <\/p>\n<p>Auf der zweiten Seite des Albums zeigen Sharon Jones &#038; The Dap-Kings noch ein paar neue Facetten: \u201eSearching For A New Day\u201c erinnert an den cineastischen Funk von Curtis Mayfields \u201eSuperfly\u201c und \u201eThese Tears (No Longer For You)\u201c kommt als ber\u00fchrende Dub-Soul-Ballade daher. Das absolute Highlight kommt jedoch kurz vor Schluss: \u201eGirl! (You Got To Forgive Him)\u201c ist ein irrwitziges St\u00fcck Musik, irgendwo zwischen h\u00f6chsten Space-Rock-Sph\u00e4ren und Shirley-Bassey-Grandeur \u2013 das die Frage aufwirft, warum Jones eigentlich nie einen James-Bond-Song aufnehmen durfte. <\/p>\n<p>Es folgt der kontemplative Gospel \u201eCall On God\u201c, auf dem Jones noch einmal das gesamte Spektrum ihrer Stimme ausreizt \u2013 und pl\u00f6tzlich ist das Album vorbei.
