Laut dem \u00e4gyptischen \u201eBuch der Toten\u201c muss das Herz eines Toten leichter als eine Feder sein, damit der Verstorbene in den Himmel aufsteigen darf. Dieser Jahrtausende alte Mythos gibt Nabiha Iqbals neuem Album \u201eThe Weighing Of The Heart\u201c seinen schwerwiegenden Namen: Die Electro-K\u00fcnstlerin ist mit ihrem Deb\u00fct gekommen, um Herzen zu wiegen. Ihre Instrumente: Der Post-Punk der 80er-Jahre, gefiltert durch acht Jahre Club-Erfahrung.<\/p>\n

Vor wenigen Monaten produzierte Iqbal noch unter dem Namen Throwing Shade Synth-Pop-lastige Dance-Musik. Die Umbenennung auf ihren Geburtsnamen steht f\u00fcr zwei wichtige Entwicklungen der K\u00fcnstlerin: Eine selbstbewusste R\u00fcckbesinnung auf ihre britisch-asiatischen Wurzeln und der Wunsch, sich selbst als Musikerin und nicht als DJ zu definieren: Organische Instrumentierungen statt Laptop-Sounds aus der DAW-Dose. Dabei hat sie stets alle F\u00e4den in der Hand \u2013 jeder Ton auf \u201eThe Weighing Of The Heart\u201c wurde von Iqbal eingespielt. <\/p>\n

Dieser instrumentale Fokus l\u00e4sst sich direkt im Opener \u201eEden Piece\u201c sp\u00fcren: Auf ein repetitives Piano-Ostinato baut Iqbal weitere Elemente aus Gesang, E-Gitarre, Bass und Beats auf, der Song verwandelt sich langsam, Schicht f\u00fcr Schicht in ein hypnotisches Mantra. Diese musikalische Architektur findet sich auch in der ersten Single \u201eSomething More\u201c: Mehrere Instrumental-Schichten verzahnen sich in sanfter Polyrhythmik zu einem gro\u00dfen Ganzen. Ihr Lead-Gesang ist dabei nie mehr als nur ein weiteres Sediment, das sich zart in ihren Klangkosmos einf\u00fcgt. <\/p>\n

Auch Iqbals melancholische Texte sind dicht in diesen auditiven \u00c4ther eingewoben. Dadurch l\u00e4sst sie die schwerm\u00fctigen Themen von \u201eThe Weighing Of The Heart\u201c erstaunlich leicht wirken: Ob sie wie in \u201eSomething More\u201c \u00fcber unerf\u00fclltes Verlangen oder in \u201eTogether Alone\u201c \u00fcber dysfunktionale Beziehungen singt \u2013 alles schwebt in Harmonie mit den The-Cure-Gitarren, den New-Order-Synthies und der sanften 4\/4-Bassdrum.
