Es war Sly Stones paranoide, kokainschwangere Antwort auf die geplatzten Tr\u00e4ume der US-amerikanischen 1960er-Jahre. Harte Funk-Hymnen als Soundtrack f\u00fcr das Ende der Civil-Rights-Bewegung. Der Slap-Bass als Waffe gegen die allt\u00e4gliche Polizeigewalt.<\/p>\n<p>Heute, fast ein halbes Jahrhundert sp\u00e4ter, sind die USA nicht unbedingt weniger unruhig \u2013 und passenderweise gibt eine ganz andere Band ihrem neuen Album den gleichen Namen. Doch Yo La Tengo ist nicht wirklich die Gruppe, von der man eine aufbrausende Anti-Establishment-Funk-Platte erwartet h\u00e4tte. Die ist \u201eThere\u2018s A Riot Goin\u2018 On\u201c auch nicht geworden \u2013 stattdessen verwandelt das Trio aus New Jersey Sly Stones Protestschrei in eine vers\u00f6hnliche Umarmung. 15 Songs, die einem den Eindruck geben, dass ganz vielleicht alles gut werden k\u00f6nnte.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Bossa Nova aus dem Weltall<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Und was f\u00fcr eine Umarmung dieses Album ist: Von der ersten Sekunde wird man von Ira Kaplans einladenden Drones eingelullt, w\u00e4hrend seine Ehefrau Georgia Hubbley ihre repetitiven Schlagzeug-Grooves schweben l\u00e4sst. James McNew wechselt zwischen Kontra- und Fuzzbass und gibt damit dem manchmal etwas abdriftenden St\u00fccken ein warmes, tiefes Fundament. Der Yo-La-Tengo-Sound legt sich \u00fcber einen wie eine warme Decke \u2013 kein Wunder, dass die 63 Minuten (auf beste Art und Weise) wie im Schlaf vor\u00fcbergehen.<\/p>\n<p>Kaum zu glauben, dass dies bereits das 14. Album dieser Band ist. Auch nach 34 Jahren legen Yo La Tengo immer noch eine verspielte Kreativit\u00e4t an den Tag, dass es eine wahre Freude ist. M\u00fchelos sch\u00fctteln sie aberwitzige Ideen aus dem \u00c4rmel: Von abstraktem, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/artists\/john-coltrane\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Coltranes<\/a> \u201eA Love Supreme\u201c zitierendem Folk-Jazz (\u201eAbove The Sound\u201c) \u00fcber augenzwinkernden Space-Bossa-Nova (\u201eEsportes Casual\u201c) bis zu die Zeit anhaltendem <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/artists\/stars-of-the-lid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stars-Of-The-Lid<\/a>-Ambient (\u201eDream Dream Away\u201c) \u2013 und alles klingt wie aus einem Guss.<\/p>\n<p>Ganz nebenbei haben Yo La Tengo auch einige kleine Pop-Wunder auf \u201eThere\u2018s A Riot Going On\u201c versteckt: \u201eShades Of Blue\u201c ist wundervoller Velvet-Underground-Minimalismus, bei dem Hubbley nicht nur mit ihrem zur\u00fcckhaltendem Schlagzeugspiel, sondern auch mit ihrer vertr\u00e4umten Stimme an Maureen Tucker erinnert. Das von Kaplan gesungene \u201eShe May She Might\u201c ist Dream-Pop-Melancholie in Perfektion. Und das abschlie\u00dfende \u201eHere You Are\u201c entl\u00e4sst einen mit nach Tim Buckley klingendem Folk und einem L\u00e4cheln auf den Lippen. W\u00fcrden alle Menschen diese Platte h\u00f6ren, br\u00e4uchte man wahrscheinlich gar keine Riots mehr.<\/p>\n<p>Ver\u00f6ffentlichung: 16.
