Goat Girl – \u201eGoat Girl\u201c (Rough Trade Records)<\/h6>\n

\u201eHow can a whole nation be so fucking thick?\u201c Diese Frage stellten Goat Girl im Jahr 2016 auf \u201eScum\u201c, der B-Seite ihrer ersten Single, nur wenige Wochen nach dem gro\u00dfen britischen Trauma namens Brexit. Heute, zwei Jahre sp\u00e4ter, klingt die Band immer noch anklagend, wenn auch etwas vers\u00f6hnlicher: \u201eDon\u2018t shed a tear \/ We all feel shame.\u201c Weine nicht, wir sch\u00e4men uns doch alle. Die Zeile stammt von ihrem selbstbetitelten Deb\u00fct \u2013 einem Album, auf dem die Londonerinnen sowohl ihrer Nation als auch dem halbtoten Medium \u201eRock-Album\u201c mit dem Defibrillator das Herz massieren. <\/p>\n

Goat Girl stammen aus Brixton \u2013 einem der wenigen Teile der britischen Hauptstadt, der (noch) nicht in den Stillstand gentrifiziert wurde, in dem eine junge Gitarrenband noch was rei\u00dfen kann. Die vier Musikerinnen, die kryptische Namen wie LED und Rosy Bones tragen, haben auf \u201eGoat Girl\u201c 19 unberechenbare Song-Bastarde versammelt, zusammengeflickt aus Garage, Punk, Kraut, und Country.<\/p>\n

Die sogenannte menschliche Rasse<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Dem Status Quo Englands und des Rests der Welt entsprechend ist dieses Album ein w\u00fctendes geworden. So ist \u201eCreep\u201c beispielsweise eine Kampfansage an all den m\u00e4nnlichen Abschaum dieser Welt, w\u00e4hrend in \u201eCracker Drool\u201c der globale Fremdenhass thematisiert wird. S\u00e4ngerin Clottie singt Zeilen wie \u201eCreep on the train \/ I really wanna smash your head in\u201c mit ihrem dunklen, direkt ins Mark gehenden Timbre, begleitet von knarzenden B\u00e4ssen, schleppenden Drums und einer kleinen Prise Country-Twang. <\/p>\n

Doch Goat Girl beherrschen auch die Kunst des lupenreinen Rock-Songs: \u201eThe Man\u201c oder \u201eBurn The Stake\u201c sind staubtrockene Gitarrenbretter, in der Tradition der alten PJ-Harvey-Meilensteine \u201eDry\u201c<\/a> und \u201eRid Of Me\u201c. Dieser Indie-Rock der 1990er-Jahre scheint tief in der DNA der Band zu stecken: \u201eI Don\u2018t Care Pt.2\u201c und \u201eTomorrow\u201c schunkeln so sch\u00f6n windschief wie die fr\u00fchen Pavement-Platten, w\u00e4hrend Clottie in \u201eCountry Sleaze\u201c den Swagger der jungen Kim Deal heraufbeschw\u00f6rt. <\/p>\n

Im Spiel mit all diesen Referenzen offenbaren Goat Girl einen solchen Spa\u00df, den man lange nicht mehr in der Gitarrenmusik geh\u00f6rt hat. Doch die Freude ist nicht alles: Kurz vor dem Ende der Platte spucken Goat Girl einem noch einmal die eingangs erw\u00e4hnte Scham ins Gesicht: \u201eI am ashamed of this so-called human race.\u201c Diese aufw\u00fchlende, ansteckende Wut ist, was \u201eGoat Girl\u201c zum bisher besten Rockalbum des Jahres macht.<\/p>\n
