Ein Name, der zum einen h\u00e4lt, was er verspricht, zum anderen komplett in die Irre leitet: Alexi Erenkov war urspr\u00fcnglich studierter Jazz-Holzbl\u00e4ser. Doch als er nach und nach immer mehr Zeit seiner Gitarre widmete, entschloss er sich, zumindest seine Band nach seinem alten Lieblingsinstrument zu benennen. Das Deb\u00fct, \u201eSongs Of The Saxophones\u201c, klingt so gar nicht nach dem <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JR_0nbEzVdY\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">E-Street-Band-Pathos<\/a> oder dem <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=izGwDsrQ1eQ\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">1980er-Balladen-Kitsch<\/a>, der in der Pop-Musik oft mit dem Instrument verbunden wird. Stattdessen haben The Saxophones eine introspektive Folk-Platte geschaffen, auf der sanfte Fl\u00f6ten zart gestreichelte Drums und Gitarren umkreisen. <\/p>\n<h4><strong>Zarte Fl\u00f6ten und gestreichelte Drums<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Diese Musik wird jedoch nicht von Fl\u00f6ten oder Saxophonen zusammengehalten, sondern von Erenkovs sonorer Stimme. Mit der ruhigen Intensit\u00e4t eines jungen Leonard Cohen und dem tiefen Timbre des The-Magnetic-Fields-S\u00e4nger Stephin Merritt bringt er wundervolle Zeilen wie \u201eTime is like a river \/ Don\u2018t you know? \/ I can\u2018t recall quite how\u201c zum Schwingen. Begleitet wird er von Alisons bedachtem Schlagzeugspiel, deren ged\u00e4mpfte Tom-Schl\u00e4ge dabei sanft wie sommerliche Regentropfen klingen und der restlichen Produktion beeindruckend viel Raum geben. <\/p>\n<p>Was auf dem Papier nach der eingangs erw\u00e4hnten, \u00fcberharmonischen Hippie-Idylle wirken mag, offenbart auf der Platte Tiefe. Zum Beispiel, wenn Erenkov in \u201ePicture\u201c mit den Klischees der Fl\u00f6ten-Musik der Native Americans spielt \u2013 und dabei Woody Guthries \u201eThis Land Is Your Land\u201c zitiert. Oder wenn das Duo in \u201eSinging Desperately\u201c den Slow-Core von Cigarettes After Sex mit Exotica kombiniert. Oder in \u201eAfterglow\u201c nur 57 Sekunden braucht, um das vielleicht bisher sch\u00f6nste Liebeslied des Jahres zu singen.
