Der am 18. Dezember 1928 in Montreal geborene Komponist und Songwriter schuf mit \u201eHair\u201c eines der ikonischsten St\u00fccke der 60er-Jahre. Auch das 1971 uraufgef\u00fchrte \u201eTwo Gentlemen In Verona\u201c gilt als wichtiges Rock-Musical. Doch seine Musik f\u00fchrte auch seit vielen Jahren ein interessantes Eigenleben, fernab von den Brettern, die die Welt bedeuten: Seit den 90er-Jahren wird sein Werk ausgiebig von Beatk\u00fcnstlerInnen als Sampling-Quelle verwendet.<\/p>\n<p>Galt MacDermot ist am 17. Dezember 2018 gestorben, einen Tag vor seinem 90. Geburtstag. Hier sind vier HipHop-Tracks, die sich seiner Kompositionen bedienen:<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Run-D.M.C. \u2013 \u201eDown With The King\u201c (1993)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Einer der ersten Produzenten, der das HipHop-Potential von MacDermots Kompositionen erkannte, war Pete Rock. Der Beatk\u00fcnstler aus der Bronx schneiderte Run-D.M.C. f\u00fcr ihren 1993er Hit \u201eDown With The King\u201c aus dem Slap-Bass-Groove von \u201eWhere Do I Go?\u201c ein neues Gewand. Got You All In Check\u201c (1996)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>1969 komponierte MacDermot den Soundtrack zum dokumentarischen Kurzfilm \u201eWoman Is Sweeter\u201c \u00fcber das Leben und Schaffen von Yves Saint Laurent. Zu den wenigen Menschen, die den relativ unbekannten Film sahen, geh\u00f6rte scheinbar auch Busta Rhymes \u2013 der das klimpernde E-Piano des Instrumentals \u201eSpace\u201c als Grundlage f\u00fcr seine Deb\u00fctsingle \u201eWoo Hah!! Got You All In Check\u201c verwendete. In seinem Krankenbett hatte der Beatmeister aus Detroit nur einen Sampler, ein 45er-Turntable und die zahlreichen Platten, die ihm seine Mutter und seine Freunde vorbeibrachten. Eine davon: \u201eThe Nucleus\u201c, ein 1971 ver\u00f6ffentlichtes Album von Galt MacDermot. Dilla war von dem funky-jazzigen Piano-Instrumental \u201eGolden Apples Pt. Der kalifornische Rapper und Produzent ver\u00f6ffentlichte nur wenige Monate nach \u201eDonuts\u201c ein Album namens \u201eExodus Into Unheard Rhythms\u201c, auf dem er nahezu ausschlie\u00dflich MacDermot-Samples verwendete \u2013 mit butterweichen Ergebnissen. Ein Paradebeispiel ist \u201eSecond Chance\u201c: Ein Sample von \u201eQueenie\u2018s Theme\u201c, ver\u00f6ffentlicht auf dem 1971er Soundtrack zum Drama \u201eFortune And Men\u2018s Eyes\u201c, bildet das Fundament, \u00fcber dem ein Pr\u00e4-\u201cI-Need-A-Dollar\u201c-Fame Aloe Blacc seinen gef\u00fchlvollen R&amp;B-Gesang ausbreitet.
