Nas \u2013 \u201eIllmatic\u201c (Columbia Records)<\/h6>\n

Ganz am Anfang von Nas\u2018 Deb\u00fctalbum gibt es einen Moment, in dem der New Yorker Rapper h\u00f6rbar an seinen Skills zweifelt. Wenige Sekunden vorher spuckte er noch diese Zeile aus: \u201eStraight out the fuckin‘ dungeons of rap \/ Where fake niggas don’t make it back.\u201c Doch dann stolpert Nas. \u201eI don\u2018t know how to start this shit\u201c, murmelt er ins Mikrofon. Ein nerv\u00f6ses, kurzes Einatmen. Kurz bevor der Wirbelsturm namens \u201eIllmatic\u201c seinen vollen Sog entfaltet \u2013 und sein Leben f\u00fcr immer ver\u00e4ndern sollte. Dieses Album wird am 19. April 2019 25 Jahre alt.<\/p>\n

Das Stolpern sei ihm verg\u00f6nnt. Nas, der am 14. September 1973 als Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones geboren wurde, war w\u00e4hrend des Entstehungsprozesses von \u201eIllmatic\u201c gerade einmal 20 Jahre alt. Seine Deb\u00fctsingle \u201eHalftime\u201c war erst vor zwei Jahren erschienen. Der Song brachte ihm einen ordentlichen Aufwind, schnell erarbeitete er sich einen Ruf als junger Rap-Prinz, der das Genre wieder zur\u00fcck in sein \u201eGolden Age\u201c f\u00fchren sollte. Gestandene Produzenten wie A Tribe Called Quests Q-Tip, die Gang-Starr-H\u00e4lfte DJ Premier oder Pete Rock standen Schlange, um das Deb\u00fct des Newcomers zu produzieren. <\/p>\n

Das Stolpern vor dem Sturm<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Doch fernab vom eingangs erw\u00e4hnten kurzen Stottern zu Beginn von \u201eN.Y. State Of Mind\u201c (das DJ Premier als Demonstration der Authentizit\u00e4t im Track lie\u00df) ist dieser Druck auf \u201eIllmatic\u201c nicht sp\u00fcrbar. Mit seiner Poesie etablierte er sich sofort als eigenst\u00e4ndige, unvorhersehbare Macht. Sein Flow hatte weder viel mit den anschmiegsamen Reimen<\/a> der New Yorker Native-Tongues-Bewegung (De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest u. a.) noch mit dem brutalen Hardcore der Wu-Tang-Schule zu tun. Und f\u00fcr die VertreterInnen des sogenannten Golden Age war seine Vision viel zu modern. Nas erz\u00e4hlte d\u00fcstere Geschichten von urbaner Armut und Gang-Kriminalit\u00e4t mit einer so noch nie gesehenen Liebe zu poetischen Details, eingepackt in virtuos verschachtelte, in sich selbst gekehrte Reimschemata: \u201eIt’s like the game ain’t the same \/ Got younger niggas pullin‘ the triggers \/ Bringin‘ fame to their name.\u201c<\/p>\n

Heute ist \u201eIllmatic\u201c ein wahrer Genre-Klassiker, bis oben vollgestopft mit Hits: Vom er\u00f6ffnenden Kraftbeweis \u201eN.Y. State Of Mind\u201c \u00fcber die jazzig zur\u00fcckgelehnte Revolution namens \u201eThe World Is Yours\u201c oder \u201eOne Love\u201c \u2013 einem Liebesbrief an zum Teil zu Unrecht verhaftete Freunde \u2013 bis zum epischen Abschluss \u201eIt Ain\u2018t Hard To Tell\u201c. Mit seinem Deb\u00fct gelang ihm aus dem Stegreif eines der Meisterwerke des 90er-Jahre-HipHop.<\/p>\n
