Die im indischen Chennai (auch bekannt als Madras) geborenen Schwestern Priya und Bhagya Ramesh leben mittlerweile im kanadischen Vancouver. Von dort aus operiert das Zwei-Frauen-Kartell unter den Namen Puma und Eboshi und schickt sich an, ein gr\u00f6\u00dferes Publikum zu erreichen. Im R\u00fccken das Label Sub Pop, einst vor allem bekannt f\u00fcr krachige Gitarren, mittlerweile aber breiter aufgestellt. Inspiration, gemeinsam Musik zu machen, war ein Auftritt von Princess Nokia, die sich wie die Ramesh-Schwestern als queer identifiziert. Nicht nur der Trap-Beat des Produzenten Skinny Local nimmt (durch Samples taditioneller indischer Instrumente) Bezug auf das Geburtsland der MCs. \u201eGoonda\u201c ist s\u00fcdasiatischer Slang f\u00fcr einen ungehobelten Menschen, und genau so stellen sich Cartel Madras der Welt vor: \u201eBoom!
