Seit etwa zehn Jahren macht das Duo aus Seattle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/blog\/news\/shabazz-palaces-quazarz-album-der-woche-71675\/\">immer interessante Musik<\/a>, doch hier kommen die disparaten Einfl\u00fcsse von Ishmael Butler und Tendai \u201eBaba\u201c Maraire erstmalig zu einem durchweg hervorragenden, koh\u00e4renten Album zusammen. <\/p>\n<p>2009 startete Ishmael Butler Shabazz Palaces zun\u00e4chst als anonymes Projekt f\u00fcr abstrakten, futuristischen HipHop. Weit entfernt von den schmooven, jazzigen Tracks, die er in den 90ern mit Digable Planets produzierte, und doch deren logische Weiterentwicklung. Zumindest, wenn man eine Linie vom relativen Crowdpleaser \u201eReachin (A New Refutation Of Time And Space)\u201c von 1993 zum deutlich sperrigeren aber auch interessanteren Nachfolgealbum \u201eBlowout Comb\u201c ein Jahr sp\u00e4ter zieht, und die bis heute verl\u00e4ngert. <\/p>\n<h4><strong>Giant Steps in unbekanntes Territorium<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Inhaltlich besch\u00e4ftigt sich auch Butler \u2013 wie viele seiner Kolleg*innen \u2013 mit dem <a href=\"https:\/\/taz.de\/Shabazz-Palaces-HipHop-aus-der-Zukunft\/!5454656\/\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Afrofuturismus<\/a>, mit der Science-Fiction-Autorin Octavia Butler, Zukunftsvisionen, die nicht die der wei\u00dfen Mittelschicht sind. Da liegt die musikalische Besch\u00e4ftigung mit Sun Ras Space-Jazz nahe. Und auch wenn die alte Behauptung, dass HipHop der Jazz von heute sei, der gleiche haneb\u00fcchene Bl\u00f6dsinn wie vor 30 Jahren ist (den <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byte.fm\/blog\/news\/uk-jazz-umsturz-auf-dem-dancefloor-88956\/\">Jazz von heute<\/a> h\u00f6rt man bei Shabaka Hutchings, Theon Cross, Nubya Garcia etc.), lassen sich strukturelle \u00c4hnlichkeiten zu Alice oder John Coltrane h\u00f6ren. Stilistische Offenheit, Neugier, den Willen in unbekanntes Territorium zu schreiten.<\/p>\n<p>\u201eThe Don Of Diamond Dreams\u201c bezieht Dub, Funk, Jazz und R&amp;B in seinen HipHop mit ein, was f\u00fcr sich genommen ein alter Hut ist. Einmalig ist, auf welche Weise das geschieht. Die Jazzelemente sind keine reinen Soundverweise. Sie sind auch nicht \u201eloungy\u201c. Sie sind eher verst\u00f6rend als gem\u00fctlich. Nicht nur im Abschlusstrack \u201eReg Walks By The Looking Glass\u201c, rei\u00dfen Saxofon und Gitarre die Klangoberfl\u00e4che auf und legen so den Blick frei auf die einzelnen Bestandteile. Das Album wirkt spontan und assoziativ und zugleich k\u00fchl und pr\u00e4zise. \u201eThe Don Of Diamond Dreams\u201c ist ein ungew\u00f6hnliches und \u00fcberraschendes Werk, das die Messlatte f\u00fcr die kommenden Monate sehr hoch legt.<\/p>\n<p>Ver\u00f6ffentlichung: 17.
