Flying Lizards und produzierte 1981 die EP Dirty Washing. Sie sang und schrieb Songs für Massive Attack, Coldcut und Ryuichi Sakamoto. Goldman schrieb Beiträge für die Musikmagazine New Musical Express, Sounds und Melody Maker über Reggae, Punk und Post-Punk. Beiträge von ihr wurden auch in New Statesman gedruckt. Goldman schrieb die erste Biografie über Bob Marley. Goldman produzierte 1989 bei der Fernsehshow Big World Café im Channel 4 mehrere Sendungen zur Verbindung von englischsprachiger Musik und Weltmusik.

Vivien Goldman schreibt auf ihrer Facebook-Seite am 7.9.15:

“Obviously I and many of my FB friends are sad about Rico Rodriguez's passing... he was such a part of my early involvement with reggae... not only was Man From Wareika a masterpiece, but its white label dub LP (by Karl Pitterson I think?) was a gem. Rico was a gentle spirit whose life enjoyed a wonderful arc -- Don Drummond was his mentor at the Alpha Boy's School in Kingston, he found a home at Count Ossie's Rasta encampment in the wild Wareika Hills; it actually says on Wikipedia (!!!) that when he was hungry, he used to play for the fishermen on the beach who would feed him... Rico Rodriguez went through hardships when he got to the promised land of the UK, but sheer talent (plus his lovely personality) saw him survive and thrive to receive government honours and be acclaimed again and again by successive generations, as a keynote player for the Specials and with Jools Holland, who all cherished his tender, eloquent trombone sound... as do so very many. Rest In Power, Rico, you were a pioneer who lived to see the culture change so much - and you played your resonant part in the process...”

“In an archetypal New York mixed romance of the time, Nyro’s (father, the) Italian jazz trumpeter and piano tuner, Lou Nigro wed her mother, a bookkeeper named Gilda Mirsky, a first generation American whose parents were leftist Jewish immigrants from Russia and Poland. The couple made a home full of music and social awareness that set her creative course. Young Laura’s political views were formed at the humanist Society for Ethical Culture.”
