Randy Weston war fasziniert von Afrika, besuchte den Kontinent mehrere Male und lebte zeitweise sogar in Marokko. Als Jazzpianist verarbeitete er die Liebe zu Afrika auch in seiner Musik und war einer der ersten afro-amerikanischen Jazz-Musiker, die ihrem Sound afrikanische Elemente hinzufügten. Am Samstag starb Randy Weston im Alter von 92 Jahren.
