Die Vergangenheit hat gezeigt, dass die Avantgarde durchaus Impulse für die Popmusik setzen kann und manchmal auch andersherum. Phonometrics beschäftigt sich alle acht Wochen mit diesen zukunftsweisenden oder anderweitig verzückenden Sounds.
